I have a 99,2500,4x4,auto with 27000 miles. When I shift into reverse there is a lot of slack in the differental, gives a real thud.
All of the slack is in the rear end assembley,
I have verified this buy getting under the truck with it in neutral, parking brake on, and turning the drive shaft back and forth. There is a lot of slack in the ring and pinion or either the spider gears.
Dealer says this is normal.
Does anyone else seem to have this much slack, (not the type you get from the dealer #ad
..... thanks

My truck does not do this, my wife's Durango does, my brother's gas Ram does... FWIW

If you can turn the drive shaft more than about 1/8 turn, it is not "normal". I would pull the cover on the differential and check the spider gears and the pin that goes through them. Also you might just pull the level plug and see if there is any metal particles on the magnet, at 27000 you should change the diff. lube anyway. bg
