Hopefully you get the joke. .

A quick glance or two at the new Dodge Ram "mega cab" tells me I better order a new dodge soon... or risk the thought of buying a Duramax because the new Dodge is too ugly to consider dropping 40 big ones.

Sorry, but if the new Dodge is going to look like a "larger" version of the new but not improved Dakota... I think I'll pass. .

Hopefully I'm not alone on this one. .

Check the posts from 3 years ago and you will feel that almost everyone (including me) felt the same way about the 3rd gen design. Life goes on.

Not me, When the 2nd Gen. 's came out I instantly liked the look... . bought one. When the 3rd's came out I liked the look... bought one. Now the new look Dakota's and Mega Cabs don't do anything for me, they really look like they got beat with the ugly stick!

Yes- Ever since Dodge was bough by the Germans, the designs have changed. Everything looks more Euro style. AKA Stupid looking fugly... . Look, NV has been dropped for a Benz trans, next Cummins will go for a Benz diesel. I'm putting money on it.

I wonder if Dodge is that stupid. I know that I don't much care for Dodge. I bought my truck because it has a Cummins. Without the Cummins, I wouldn't be driving a Dodge. I know a lot of members here probalby agree with me.

Geezz... take a look at the 2005-2006 BMW Motorcycle designs ... they all fell from the top of the ugly tree and hit evey branch on the way down!

The new Dakota looks like they are trying offer a more macho version of that ugly PT Cruiser thingy... . the Dakota needs a leveling kit. Might as well buy a minivan.

I loved the 2nd generation look, even though it got a lot of grief in the press at first. I'm okay with the 3rd generation look but I bought one mainly to get away from steering problems in the 2nd generation (my 2001 wouldn't hold a line worth a dang and nothing done to it helped) and I just accepted the new look. The 2006 design stinks. Ford Superdutys look a lot better though Ford will probably screw them up too by moving closer to the Tonka Truck concept look. I guess I'm more into strong smooth curves ( 94-2002 ) than weak smooth curves ( 2003-2005 front end droop ) and sharp, hard angles ( 2006-? ).

I don't know guys, Benz has a lotta diesels on the road and OTR for forever. Guess I don't wear my brand loyalty on my sleeve. I just want whatever I got to work.

Cheers,

Steve J

I read that when the Germans took over this was actually considered, but they must have decided that the Cummins engine was selling the trucks. In the future. . Who knows!

Which manufacturer has the greater name recognition with the general public, Cummins or MB? I know that the general public does not buy diesel trucks for the most part, but MB does have a good reputation in the truck business (I assume).

Jeez, 99% of us haven't even seen the '06 in person and everybody's crucifying it. Every generation has been slammed but then loved, whats gonna be the difference this time? I'm willing to bet that most of you griping will have one in 2-3 years

If they did that and your options were:

V8 - Duramax

V8 - Powerstroke

I6 - MB906

would you go with the V8's or would you give the MB inline 6 a try ... tough choise, but unless Paccar starts making Pete 230's and KW 200's ... you'll have to get something.

(hummm ... . a Pete 230 4X4 ISC Crew 12' dumping flatbed ... . )

General public, hmm id say mercedes is a more trusted name. People with a brain, cummins would be better in their eyes. Fatcat- Right now there is not one truck on the market I would own. I dont care for the new emissions or drive by wire systems. Only thing I would ever own was a 99+ superduty with a 12v cummins or an older dodge 250 crew cab with a 12v transplanted in it. Sorry Don't want something new that bad!

There has also been some speculation that Daimler/Chrysler may go with a Detroit Diesel motor someday... . since D/C bought DD awhile back.

These threads crack me up, I mean, do you really buy a tow vehicle for it's looks???

Don't get me wrong, I love the way my 2nd gen looks, but even if it looked like rosanne barrs behind on a water retention day, I'd still love the truck.

Guess I prefer function over form .

When you pay 40k for a truck, it should look decent. I prefer the 99+ superduty body style to my 96 Ram but the Ram's drivetrain and engine are superior to the fords. So there is the function over looks. Thats always more important to me. The new truck could look like a beetle, still would not want one with drive by wire, in tank fuel pump, loaded with emissions and computers. I don't care for the functions. or design so I'm plum of out luck. lol
