when i mash down on the pedal? Sometimes i get white smoke too when i first start it. Been having problems with the truck and trying to figure it out. Lift pump was replaced a couple of months ago and hasn't been right since.

black smoke issue

Gary,

I would check the charge air cooler (intercooler) hose clamps and any other associated plumbing and fittings having to do with the air intake piping coming from the turbocharger all the way to the manifold. I've heard of some with loose clamps and even as far as hoses blowing off. You will lose boost and produce black smoke (too much fuel, not enough air).
