Just wondering but it seems like a problem with the Cummins to have the injector pump go out along with the lift pump it seems. My 2000 quit running on Sunday and would not start back up. The dealer found the injector pump as the problem. Any issues I should be concerned with from the dealer as far as hidden costs. The truck has a build date of 11/99 and has a tad over 96,000 miles. I was curious as for the price of the pump. . $1607, wow!

Also what is the price tag plus labor for a lift pump if anybody has had this done at the dealer?

Sorry to hear about your VP

It may or may not be under warranty depending on your truck was first purchased. It's a 5 year 100k mile warranty on the motor is my understanding. If you dont have warranty then you can buy a new stock pump (not reman) for exactly 1/2 the price if one knows where to shop from. PM me if you need the shop. I hear its about a 2 hour install, I am about to undergo mine this week.

Although you will read posts about them going bad... the VP44 is supposed to be rated to run for many many hours according to Bosch. There are many more out there that will not have problems as compared to those that do. Common is not my favorite term to describe VP44 troubles. A possibility is what I always say.

If 500,000 ISB VP44 trucks were build... and 1% were expected to have trouble... then thats 5000 trucks. And of the 5000... 1% may turn to something like TDR for answers and comments. So 50 folks can make a problem seem big on an internet site devoted to the Dodge Cummins.

But its good to come here for answers. You just can't take the failure numbers to heart. Or something like that :) And there will be failures of course. And its not good and I feel bad for anyone who suffers them.

Lift pump replace

I had my LP replaced at the local dealer. Parts+Labor cost me about $425. 00 including the diagnosis scan. I know you can cut that in half by going to a diesel shop or just replacing it yourself.

hope this helps

I bought my first replacement Lift Pump from a Freightliner shop, for $136. 00 plus tax. The Cummins shop was $160. 00 plus tax, for the exact same pump in the exact same Cummins genuine parts box.

It took me about 45 min. going very slowly to replace my Lift Pump myself. The only thing that I had done myself on this truck before that was the fuel filter. I was scared before doing the pump swap, but it really is pretty easy. Next time should take 15min - half an hour.

Dont forget that 1% ( :-laf ) of the TDR membership will add fueling boxes/tap the pump wire which may account for some of the failures.
