Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Is it the Crankshaft Sensor?

I have a '01 Dodge 2500 5 speed. I am having major power failure. My tach won't work and I loose all power. The check engine light stays on, then all of a sudden the tach will kick on and I have power again, but who knows for how long. Could it be the crankshaft sensor? I will take any kind of help!!

You don't have a Crank sensor on your 2001.

But, you do have a Cam position sensor behind the camshaft on the gear housing.



My opinion though is that your problems lies with your TPS.

Throttle Position sensor.

That is located above your fuel pump right at the front of your engine drivers side.

I suggest unplugging the connection and spraying some contact cleaner in both wire harness connection and in female TPS connection.

Then let dry and use Dielectric grease to insulate the connection and reassemble.
