Bad news for the VP44... This is my 5th pump. 2 of the replacements have been bad rebuilds and didn't last a week. #4 was probably due to the COMP on kill but I have the comp only as an EZ and my FP has been good.

What do to? I feel sick over this. I don't want to keep throwing $$ at this if every couple years it's time for a G note bath.

I have read that it's a good idea to check all grounds when you have multiple codes. Any truth to this? Anything else I can do?

It may be 2nd Gen Garage Sale time...

Please help.

Jason

its not always about pressure jason. if you want to see a good long life out of it then get yourself a good pusher pump ( I like my fass but they are pricey) and a big line kit.

You want to get a large volume of fuel to the pump so it can lubricate itself well. I had a VP44 die but I was running the snot out of it with a drag comp and it suffered an electronic failure. I only run 13psi at idle and 10 at WOT too.

I would much rather have a pusher pump and big lines making 10psi than stock pump and stock lines making 20psi.

Its definitly not time to put it down... but if you decide to let her go, talk to me.

OK - Cleared Codes and disconnected batts. Cleaned grounds and went for a drive. I don't 'feel' the miss that was there but still think it is an issue. Rechecked codes and have:

P0216 (M) Fuel Injection Pump Timing Failure High fuel supply restriction, low fuel pressure or possible wrong or incorrectly installed pump keyway.

P0234 (M) Turbo Boost Limit Exceeded Problem detected in turbocharger wastegate.

P0236 (M) Map Sensor Too High Too Long Problem detected in turbocharger wastegate.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in Companion Module A fault has been generated in the companion engine control module.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in PCM/ECM or DTC Detected in ECM A 9Companion DTC9 was set in both the ECM and PCM.

Our Codes list in the 24V FAQ lists 2 for 1693. Not sure which applies. What's up with 234 and 236? I have a COMP hooked up as an EZ. Why am I seeing Boost/wastegate stuff?

TJ - you are right. If I don't get too PO'ed and have a fire sale, a pusher of some sort is a got to do... Did your VP crap out with or without a pusher? Thanks for any other help or suggestions...

i had the fass pump on there, but like i said i didnt have an internal parts failure or 216 code. I got some 25x or 24x code about fuel metering circuit voltage out of range or too low.

it was the electronics the bit the dust from something with the drag comp. I've been running a smarty and TST comp (the shutter bug box) and have taxed this pump out to the max. Running level 9 on both tuners etc, and haven't had a moments problem with the VP. But I am also running garden hose sized fuel lines from tank to VP44.

Took the comp off tonight and my surging is gone. Need to recheck codes tomorrow. Talked with Doug at PDW and thinking about the FASS per his recommendation. TJ - would you do the FASS again?

Has anyone ever thrown a 216 code due to the COMP?

Thanks,

Jason

The FASS 95 pushes 17 to 18 psi I think but the problem is there is a diaphram in the injection pump that get cracked or broke due to high fuel pressure and it will move a little bit it could cause it surg or be hard to start in when hot I Think FASS makes a spring to somehow fix that but not sure how it works
