Yes, the new 2004. 5 HO turbo diesel will have a cat. inorder to meet the new epa standards. I ordered a new 2004. 5 anyway. I had a new chevy that the cat was damaged, guess I hit a rock off-roading or some thing. I replaced it with a high flow cat, still road legal and alot better performance overall. The good news DC didn't install a EGR valve. Good luck:cool:

Believe me - once they install the CAT -

the EPA boys will ensure that if you ever do take it off - and get caught - look out. It will not be legal to remove it or else it wouldn't be needed at manufacture.

The 12 valve trucks from 94-98 had converters on them. My 95 ran fine with it. That wouldn't stop me from ordering one if I was looking for a new truck.

I wouldn't worry about the cat. They're pretty free flowing. Just refrain from using ATF as a top end lubricant an don't let it idle too long in the cold. 350*F EGT and up should keep it clean and free flowing. The turbocharger is the most restrictive part of the exhaust system. Then the muffler. If you remove the muff, the cat makes a nice resonator to keep the bark and droan in check.

hammersley,

Go to the TDR "MAIN" page, and read the report on the 2004. 5 CTD by Joe Donnelley. He gives a good review of the new 2004. 5 Turbo Diesel.
