i need some help with a decision please. i have a perfectly maintained and completely stock 2001 2500 (see sig) i have the urge and the money to buy a 03 3500 but do want to give my truck away for a new one. it is in the classifieds at 25500, the kelly blue book value is 29300 retail and 26100 customer to customer. am i out of line with pricing? i am a certified mechanic and did all maintenance myself, planning of keeping the truck to the end of life. i just can not resist the urge of a new one. i read the 3g posts twice a day hoping to see something bad to change my decision , but it does not happen.

the other problem is that i can not go without a truck so i must order one this week so that i have one when i sell mine. i also can not afford to have two. i guess my real question is , all you folks that sold 2001's to get 03's , how long did it take and did you get your asking price? these are also great trucks , don't really see how the 2003's could be much nicer.

please any thoughts would help

I would say go far it. I went from a 00(on a scale of 1-10 I would of gave it a 10)to this 03 that was on a dealer lot. La Grange Dodge had to make two trades to get it. There is a vast improvement in these. I was gonna give them a year or more to get the bugs out but I got a wild hair up my arse:--) and went for it. No regrets other than the other one was payed for.

And they gave me what mine was worth on trade in and come off the price considerable:eek:

I can not give any input on the finacial questions you have about your '01 but I can help elsewhere. Previous to my '03 I had a '01 2500,Q/C,4x4,SLT, with a 5. 9 gasser. This was a very nice truck and I had very few problems with it. However, I wanted a diesel so I went looking. I can honestly say that I was not crazy about the look of the '03 at first but in time it grew on me. I bought one of the first 2003's to hit the street and I have not looked back. As a matter of fact I have another on order (long story). This truck is everything you have read about in this forum. Better brakes, the steering is awsome, especially after owning a '01, ride is better, fit and finish are good, and so on... . You say you have the money for a new one so go for it and recycle your '01 to someone who can't afford a new truck so they to can exprience a CTD. :D

Do a trade-in. I got $25,800 out of a 2000 3500 4x4 ETC auto with 56K miles on it. Traded for a new 02 that listed for $37K, I paid $28,500 or $2,700 difference. Go in and make your deal, if you have a nice trade they will make the deal. They sold my truck for a profit in less than 1 month. Believe it or not but the 2nd generation trucks are in great demand. Not everyone likes the 3rd generation trucks and the dealers need your trade-in.
