According to Amsoil, limited slip additive is not necessary when using their oil. I have personal experience with Mobil One syn. 7590 with which they make the same claims, and that their oil would not work properly without the additive. Our situation is severe service since we have a large slide in camper, which we have had weighed and the total weight for truck and camper was 10,800 pounds. I would like to know from the members who have put the Amsoil series 2000 7590 in their trucks under severe service as to what their opinion, on the need of the limited slip additive.

Amsoil Series 2000 75w-90 and the 140, do not need the friction modifier. Mine has been working fine for about 50,000 miles. I pulled it last summer at some fairs, about 5 times, and on the video the back tires are always spinning. Both sides.
When I have a trailer on, I try not to spin, but I see no reason why it would not work with a load.
Don't forget about several tight figure 8s after the change!

NO.

Series 2000 has friction modifier added already. Before using Series 2000 I used Amsoil's regular 75W-90 and did NOT need to add friction modifier either.

I believe I have heard of some guys still having to add the friction modifier even when using Amsoil synthetic gear lube. I think it might have to do with the LSD clutch pack adjustment???? I am no expert on rear ends so this could be wrong, but seems some LSD just are not happy if the friction modifier is missing.

I didn`t have to add any friction modifier to Amsoil 2000 75W-90. This was the ONLY rear end lube I didn`t have too. Torco & Redline lubes also said adding friction modifier was not neccessary. Their products came with it already.

Hogwash. The rear end chattered & popped so bad truck was almost undriveable. Had to add the amount of friction modifier that was required if the lube didn`t have any in it already. Still chattered #ad

Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 is by far the best rear end lube I have ever had.

I have the Amsoil 75-140 in mine and i'm getting ready to add the modifier. Ever since I put it in,the rear wants to stay locked when going around turns, mostly when pulling away from a stop and making a turn. It really moans and groans so I am ging to add the modifier. It sounds like it is going to be a try and see thing with all these different reply's.

JKL your remarks were exactly how my truck responded with the Mobil One.

I have had Ser 2000 75W-90 in mine now for 15K and have never added any whale oil and no problems what so ever. I really think what help this more than any thing is right after changing the gear lube to find a parking lot and do some tight circle 8s, this works the new in and the old out.

I agree with Hemi this is the best rear end gear lube!!!! And it's a COOL BLUE Color

I use Amsoil 2000 75-140 with a Mag-Hytec cover and had to add 3 bottles of Mopar Limited Slip Additive after about 10,000 miles to stop the groaning, growling, and popping when making turns.

Jack,
I have installed the Series 2000 75W-90 in many trucks over the past several years, and have only put the additive in one truck, as the owner insisted on it. Like someone has said before me, some may need it some may not. If you want to try it, make sure you drive the truck in a series of figure 8's after installing, then if it makes the noises, add the modifier.
As to the use with heavy loads, I have some customers with 18 wheelers useing it, and no problems.
