This is my first Diesel and don't know what to expect. I have a 2500 SO auto quad 4X4 with 3. 73 rear. With 2500 miles on it towed our 9,000 lb. 5th wheel to Florida. Approx 2600 mile round trip. By computer got 12 miles per gallon.

With 8,000 miles on it drove to Alabama approx 1100 miles one way not towing got 18 MPG, returned pulling an enclosed 6X12 U-Haul approx 3,000 lbs. total weight and got 14 MPG. All the above trips ran about 70 to 75 MPH. Does this sound right?

Maybe it's the automatic, but it sounds on the low side to me. I'm getting about 19-20 running around home and a little better on the highway if I keep the speed under 75.

Doesn't sound too bad to me. Don't rely solely on the trip computer for accurate MPG info. Mine is ususally . 3 or . 4 MPG overstated.

I have 1,800 miles on my truck and my around town driving with some light towing (3000 pounds) added in is returning barely 14mpg. Do you guy's feel this may be on the low side. For the record, my towing equates to 40-50 miles per tank of fuel and a lot of my trips are 5 miles or less.
