Stopping the oil leak from Blow-by tube?

Fuel Pump Timing

I was giving my engine a once over yesterday, and I noticed a strong fuel smell. I shut my engine off using the manual shut off valve so I didn't have to walk around to the door. My finger was covered in diesel fuel... kinda scared me. I noticed the drivers side of the fuel pump had fuel running down it. I looked for a source, and nearest I can tell, its coming out from under the throttle linkage. Like, underneath the heavy spring that sits on top of the pump that goes to the throttle. That all I could tell, but I do know this isn't supposed to be like that. Any ideas? My fuel pump isn't about to croak, is it? I sure hope not. I have noticed that when I sit at a stop light with the engine in gear, black smoke pours out of the exhuast pipe. It clears up when i put it in nuetral, or when I take off. Why is my pump leaking fuel? Thanks for the help guys. I hope its nothing serious. By the way, there is no change in engine performance, and no change in engine sound.

I think that there is a bushing/seal kit for the pump linkage that was replaced on mine a long time ago. Not too sure though. Power Wagon , Piers , can you shed some light on this??

Yes, these pumps seem to leak more than they go bad, I had mine about 2 months, when noticed diesel pouring out, PW said it was probably an "O" ring, but the pump has to be pulled to work on it, took the truck to a place here in ATL and they removed and sent it to bosch for repair, also had them run the valves also while in there, it was about 550 dollars for all of it, mostly labor, since then there have been 2-3 other posts about the injector pumps leaking...

Thanks, that makes me feel alot better
I just do'nt know where to take it around here. It also seems that the leak has stopped all the sudden... the pump looks dry and there isn't a fuel smell anymore
Thanks for the help guys, you help alot!

Your truck smoke at idle in gear? How odd... Does it smoke blue when cold?

What you have going on is the throttle shaft leaking... unfortunately, it will probably require more than just an o-ring to fix it, all though that might be all. Even if it stopped, it's probable that it will start again, and that it will leak every time you start it cold - when the cold advance is on.

I notice your sig says 165K miles. On a 91, that means you're 10 years old, and a pretty good candidate for failing o-rings, and not just the throttle shaft. At 165K miles, you can expect to need to replace all the seals and sealing o-rings and some linkage hardware, at minimum.

As for the smoke, it would be good to have your injectors tested... I'd check your idle speed too... perhaps if it's idling too slow, it might smoke in gear, but then it would shake pretty bad.

Actually, it does shake in gear at idle. Not like a California earthquake, but it does shake. And yes, it does leak alittle with the cold advance on. Hmm. I was thinking I was having injector problems with the smoke thing. Is the injector pump expensive to replace? I'm tlaking about O-rings and linkage parts.
