I put an Autometer electric fuel pressure gauge in recently. Either my guage is bad or I'm loosing my LP. When I first start it in the morning, it won't budge from zero. After driving 1-10 miles, it will slowly move up to "normal" readings, usually around 6psi under way and 9 psi at idle. After it starts providing readings, it usually is good for the rest of the day until recently. Now it works for awhile and then I look down and it's at zero. If I idle, it may creep up to 3psi and then all of a sudden it will zoom up to 6psi and stay there. If I really romp on it, I can pull the pressure almost down to zero. Normal acceleration it will usually bring it down to 3psi. I'm thinking my LP is going south. Have 83k miles. Truck is running great and shows no signs of problems. Taking it to my local diesel shop tomorrow to have them check it out. They said they'd try and get authorization from Chrysler to replace LP. Probably time anyway with that many miles on it. Anyone else had a similar experience?

Sounds like it's bad but could be the pressure gauge set up. It's always nice to have a test gauge (mechanical) to verify readings. Under normal idle conditions I'd say anything less than 13 psi is questionable, 15 psi if the fuel tank is full. I wouldn't want to see anything less than 5 psi while getting into it if it's hopped up a little or 8-10 psi if it's stock, these are just my numbers that I live by.

Mike, same symptoms here, replaced the pump on my dime> rock solid 16 psi all the time.

It seemed like cold weather played a factor but it was the pump.

replace it

BIGMIKE:

YES I HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEND TO ON A RV TRIP THROUGH

TEXAS MINE WAS OK ONE DAY THEN 50 MILES OUT OF MIDLAND

{BUSHES BIRTH PLACE} I HAD 48000 MILES ON MINE DEALER

REPLACED LP AND NOW I GOT 15lb AT IDLE AND DROPS TO 13-12

lb AT DRIVING NORM AND WOT SO I WOULD SAY YES ITS THE LP.

BIGMIKE:

YES THE SAME THING HAPPEND TO ME. ONE DAY IT WAS OK THE

NEXT DAY IT WAS ZERO FP THEN IT WOULD SPIKE UP TO 6-7lb

THEN BACK TO ZERO LONG STORY SHORT IT WAS THE LP. I ONLY

HAD 48000 MILES. DEALER SAID AT FIRST IT WAS NOT COVERD

SO I PULLED OUT MY EXT. WARRANTY HE SAID IT STILL WAS NOT

COVERD SO I OPEND IT AND SHOWED HIM WERE IT SAID LP AND

OTHER RELATED FUEL COMPONENTS. THEY NOT ONLY REPLACED

IT BUT ALSO RENTED ME A RENT-A-CAR FOR TWO DAYS. I GOT 15lb

AT IDLE AND 11-12-13lb AT NORMAL DRIVING AND WOT.

Big Mike-

As I read all of the above posts, mine did the same thing, reading the same as yours. Dealer should replace it with no problems. If they don't ,go to war with them for it is coverved till 100,000. Good luck.

You guys were all right on the mark. Took my truck to Wentland Diesel in Milton Freewater, Oregon this afternoon. When I got there, my gauge was reading zero. They put a mechanical gauge on it and it read the same. Pressure came up to about 3psi at idle. They put a new LP on and WOW!! It reads 15psi at idle and 13 WOT. Should have listened to folks on the forum earlier. I've been driving around with low pressure for at least a couple of months. They also ran the scanner on my truck and there were no codes, so guess my main pump is ok. I don't know how people function without a FP gauge:confused: BTW, the folks at Wentland are really terrific and easy to work with. They are authorized by Chrysler to do warranty work.
