Well, after the 115 hp injectors and the Pmax3 got together the truck runs very well. But now, the turbo seems to howl, like a rubbing sound, at anything about 10 psi. You can even hear it spin back down.

I don't have a clue on what my next move is. Is there something loose.

Any help is appreciated. I can't keep my foot out of it for too long. .

What filter

Are you running? With my K&N mine whisles real good at high PSI's. Plus I can hear mine spool down also.

Dennis, pull the intake hose off and look to see if the compressor wheel is rubbing on the housing. Push and pull on the shaft, see how much endplay is on the shaft. You can measure the endplay with a dial indicator or a caliper. Take a feeler gauge and push the shaft down, measure the gap at the top of the wheel. Pull the shaft up and measure the gap again on the bottom of the wheel. Let us know what you find.

I did not see anything TOO obvious. There is no axial play, but if you push lightly up and down/side the side, it easily touches the housing. I suppose thats bad.

Dennis

That is definately BAD!!! Sorry Dennis. If it touches the housing it will send metal from the blades and the housing downstream. Personally I would park it. Time to investigate turbos IMO.

EDIT: maybe a member in the area has an HX or HY that you could use until you decide what to do, getting your HX rebuilt is relatively cheap.

Lsmith, you said the hx is easy/cheap to rebuild, how much are the bearings/seals,and where do you get them/are theyre any special tools needed to rebuild it?

Snow man, I would not do it myself, for one I do not have the abliity to check/balance it. I remember reading that Piers will rebuild it and make it into a PDR HX for around $250. You can send it to a turbo shop and get it rebuilt for less, or Cummins will send it out and have it done for about 300 last time I asked.
