In my area dodges seem to resale a lot better than fords, heck just drive by a used car lot fords are a dime a dozen. I sold my old first gen a month ago for 1200 more than what the blue book was on it, and 3000 more than the dealer offered me as a trade in.

Pretty close for my 99 that I gave away due to situations beyond my control. Sold for $24,500, NADA was $23,750, Kelly Blue Book was $22 and change. No one even called/emailed when it was priced at $27,000 last October through July - I dropped the pricing in August and finally got a buyer out of Las Vegas.

BTW - I know where a 93 CC, 2wd, Automatic, missing paint on the roof and has 173k is and they only want $15,000 - It's been there quite awhile.

I was able to purchase my truck 2K below the avg trade in value and it's in outstanding shape. My understanding of trading values is if the truck/car hit's 100,000 miles it very hard for the dealer to get some to finance the unit. So what most dealers do is cut the trade in value way down on the unit.

Dealers around here dont use NADA. They use Galls, or Gals, I dont know the proper spelling.

It's wayyyy lower than the NADA, or the KBB prices. I suspect that a dealer went into their own "blue book business" so to keep the prices down on the trade ins.

The wife and I was at a dealer a while back, her 99 Mazda 626 mint cond loaded with 60K miles is worth $5000.

DAM!!! When we bought it, list was almost 20K!!!

There was one on the lot with more miles, and not as nice for 10K.

She's driving this till the wheels fall off.

One of things dealers love to do is to tell you that I can only give you wholesale price for the car/truck. That is BS right out of the gate. First thing it's not your concern what the dealer can wholesale the unit for it's what the dealer can retail the unit for is the price you want for your truck or car or close to it.

Than the other thing when they ask how much do you owe. Well that does not matter at all. You need to have the price you want already figure out before you go to the dealer.

One of the items you can do is go and shop around for like truck/car and than be armed with that data and than give than give them hell when they try to low ball you.

The dealers will make money on trade on the purchase and from the bank.

When the dealer tells you that the price is say $200 above invoice than there is another 3% dealer cash from DC or who every and thats on MSRP. For example that would $900 on $30,000 that the dealers gets on top of the $200.

Sorry went of on the dealers . There are some very good dealers that do try to make it fair for all parties involved.
