Is the quality on these new Dodges any better?

Than the 2001's, or is it the same old story... ... little electrical problems and other stuff all the time. I love the Cummins engine but I've just about had enough of the annoying crap that I've dealt with and am ready to buy an 06. However as I'm reading through some of the forum it seems like there's an awefull lot of complaints on these new ones too.

My 2002 has never been back to the dealer - not one warranty problem, although I did change out a back-up light switch recently. My 1996 was just about as good. Things that make you go hmmmmm.....

I'm very impressed with the quality of my 05 and I personally believe that teaming up with Daimler was a smart move... you can almost see the German influence especially in the interior. Until 2003, I hadn't bought a new vehicle in 13 years when I finally sprang for a new Vette. Having driven nothing but Fords my whole life I was impressed with the build quality of Chevy's flagship having heard all of the "plastic junk" comments usually associated with Corvettes. After picking up my 05 3500, I quickly realized how many corners were cut by Chevy in the production of that car. That said, while things mechanical are going to break and in turn, be posted on the internet for the world to see, it sometimes appears that a particular vehicle is prone to trouble... I suppose we can thank Al Gore for that All things considered, my 3500 is the absolute best vehicle I've ever purchased... hands down.

My $. 02 is that any time you have a forum like this (or any other brand specific), people are going to get together and talk about the problems or any issues they have. It's much easier to bring up what doesn't work than what does. I mean why bother to talk about all the things we like? It's the problems that we need help with finding a solution.



Personally I had only 1 trip to the dealer with my '01. It was for a lift pump at 110,000 miles. Traded the truck with 130k on an '05. I love the new truck but have issues with thin sheet metal and a few other corners that have been cut. I don't like some of these things, but still prefer driving the '05 to the '01.

Mine has had a few minor issues but nothing I would not expect from the start of a new run. My last 2 dodges (1/2 ton LWB 2WD, RamCharger 2WD, both end of the run for those models) were flawless, one (1/2 ton) went 200000 before I traded it in and the other sits in my yard at 275000 miles... ... ... ... . not one major breakdown on either. I am actually pleasently surprised that the automatic transmission in the RamCharger has had nothing more than fluid changes.

I loved my '96 Dodge Ram 4x4 gasser and I love my 2004. 5 CTD 6-speed. Perfect? No, but very, very good. Neither you or I are perfect and it's unrealistic to expect something as big and powerful as a truck with tens of thousands of parts to perform flawlessly for hundreds of thousands of miles.



Just smile and enjoy the good times and deal with the problems as they appear.

My '02 was back to the dealer twice. Once for the brake pads wearing really uneven. I fixed that myself when I wore the inside pads down below the rivets. The other was for a dead lift pump at around 70K miles replaced under warranty. The only other time it was back was only for service just before I sold it.



My current '04. 5 has been back one time and it was my fault. I knocked the clutch switch loose while I was installing the TST. It is SOOOOO much more comfortable than the '02 was. Handles better, rides better, stops better, sounds better (to me), and goes better, and even gets about the same mileage as the '02. There are always going to be things that you don't like about a vehicle and that's why the aftermarket business is so big. You can change just about anything you don't like into something you do like.

I swore off Dodges in 1975. Bought Chevies up until 2000. Now have my 3rd Dodge in 5 years.



One injector problem. Interior is superior to the Chevies I had.



Steel thickness in the bed is my biggest complaint!

I've had two second gens and now the third gen. Had only one issue with the first one. It was so minor I can't even remember what it was.

Last two trucks never went back to the dealer.

Love my 05

This is my first new truck since my 1985 Ford Diesel. I had to wear ear plugs on a long trip with it but it was a work truck and I put up with it. I now have a 4dr lwb 6 speed 05 2500 and I love it. I do notice the sheet metal is thin and have already had a dent in the door from a shopping cart. It has 6,000 miles on it and I have not had the first problem other than blowing the back up light fuse when I pull a trailer that does not have a good ground. The ride is pretty smooth for a heavy duty truck with 10 ply tires running 80 lbs of air. It sure is a quiet ride and I love the Thunder Road package. After the newnest wears off, I will set a utility body on it with some dually adaptors and it will become a real work truck and I will go back to cruising around in my 72 unrestored D100. There sure has been some changes in 33 years. Gene

05 2500 that HAS never Given ANY stock problems. Yes I've goosed it a bit, But still nothing thats caused it to give up the ghost and die. Any problems I've had are mine for the fixing. The 3rd gen trucks are VERY strong.

I'm driving an 03' CTD, this being my 3rd CTD since 91. The 03' is by far the better of the other two! Not that I had many problems with the 1st or 2nd gen trucks. The 1st gen was sold with over 50K for the newer style 2nd gen, and I put 150K on it before I opted for the 03'. I now have 53K on the 03', and no major problem at all.



I LOVE driving the 03' over the other two.

2005 2500. Quieter and has the stock power. No problems since purchase.

I have owned trucks from Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Dodge Mitsubishi, and Metro.

Cars from Fiat, BMW, Rover, Cadillac, Chrysler, Ford, Volkswagon, Buick, Opel Germany, Isuzu and Subaru. I have never had a lemon and the 2500 is my first diesel. Urban legend is that it depends on what day your vehicle was made. Must be my luck is mid-week vehicles;no Monday hangovers at the plants or Friday rush-to-get out.
