Here I am

Is there a better fueling box then the Edge Drag Comp

Fuel Preasure gauge?

Anyone with a Cummins Quick Check?

I've already had an EZ and now im stepping it up on my new 99CTD. I was looking at the new Edge catalouge and noticed all of these new boxes for other diesels ( Juice for duramax and powerstroke) These feature a nicer looking in cab controller with built in gauges. Is there anything new out there for the 24V, or is the Drag comp still top dog.

Better in what way?

Better for adjustability? Blue chip might be.

Better for racing? TST competition might be.

Better for smoke? DDUFM might be.

It's all about what YOU want. Personally, I'd go with the DDUFM if you wanted the extra timing.

If not, then it's TST BABY!

Just a rumor, but I heard that Edge is making a box for the older 24v's that will have gauges built in and look like the one for the new 24v's Can anyone confirm it??

Thats what im waiting for.

Which will deliver the most power and faster et's

I have been told that the TST competition is faster on the track in many cases, depending on the truck's setup. The Edge does give you timing more than the TST does.

I'm definitely the minority, but I'd go with the TST.

No, it doesn't adjust timing by itself-- but it does CAUSE the stock ECM to adjust timing. TST leaves the timing within stock parameters for safety...

Sure, by piggybacking the stock pulse, when the FCM sees that the last pulse was x amount of milliseconds ago, it can skew the start of the next event, but that really isn't CONTROL now is it?

new to this whole diesel seen, but have been looking to beef my truck up just for towing. Is there a reason I dont see much about the Banks systems in here? Being new to this I looked around and thought that they were the way to go.

Yeah, there's a reason you don't see much about Banks on here. There are better ways to go that are not only AS good or better, but MUCH MUCH CHEAPER.

No, it isn't. I was under the impression that the TST didn't work that way, either. Could it do this without a Can-Bus connection. I'm having flashbacks of my TST- timing thread.

Anyway, I was told by TST that the injection of more fuel causes the engine's sensors to think that the engine is under less of a load than it really is. Thus, the stock ECM will advance timing because it "thinks" that you're at a steady cruise when you're really getting into it.

Or something like that.

Hohn, is there anyway you could tell me what they are without starting alot of controversy? I dont know yet what we are aloud to discuss and what we arent.

CMaster,

Try here: Fritz's page

This page has a lot of links to many of the performance boxes for our trucks. The page is a little dated, so some of the newer companies won't be on there, but it is a good starting place.

I assume this is in reference to my comment about ways to do better than Banks?

This is an easy one.

A Banks powerpack for a 24V 2nd gen truck (1998. 5-2002 only) is advertised at 145hp/288 lb-ft. It includes turbo modifications (new housing and WG actuator), fueling modifications via the Ottomind wire tap computer, Monster exhaust, High Ram air intake, replacement air filter, gauges, and a power elbow (or whatever it's called).

You get a lot of parts with the Banks kit. This is part of the reason it sells for $3400 or more. Keep in mind, your'e spending over $3K for 145hp/288 lb-ft.

What if you try to do things yourself and not go Banks? There are a number of ways to reach the power level, but let's try to simulate a the Banks setup.

We'll need:

4" Exhaust: $450

14cm WG turbine housing: $350

wire-tap fuel box: $630

Mach 1. 5 injectors:$700

Gauges: $150

The above combination totals $2280. For this amount of money, you get one of the best injectors money can buy (more mpg). Banks includes no injectors. With this package, you can adjust your fueling computer to determine how much power/smoke you are comfortable with. Banks, you can't. With this kit you can buy higher quality gauges than Banks includes. With this kit, you don't have to buy a stainless exhaust when aluminized works well for 80% of the people.

Most importanty, compare the POWER PER DOLLAR. The Banks kit will take a 1999 ETC engine from 179 to 297 hp. Banks improves torque from 372 to 648 lb-ft http://www.bankspower.com/test_results_AD01.cfm

The above homebew combination will give you enough fuel for 430hp and will come very close to 900lb-ft.

So let's review:

Banks: 297 peak hp, 648 lb-ft at a cost of $3400

Homebrew system: 400+hp, 850+ lb-ft at a cost of $2280.

While the homebrew system has the POTENTIAL to exceed the capabilities of your turbo and trans, it will be perfectly fine at lower settings of the box, which would make it comparable to the Banks. The notable exception being that the homebew setup will have better quality gauges, better MPG, and tow a trailer much better!!

Sold on Banks yet?

JMHO, YMMV, etc etc. .

Good comparison Hohn.

Hohn didnt exagerate pricing either, you could actually find a top box for at least $50 less than that and the injectors he mentioned are top of the line. You could get higher HP injector's that are perfectly suitable for the same price (but why would you?)
