A question for you guys that have more experience with these trucks. Mine is a 2015 2500 Is there a DEF filter in the system that can be changed? I’m a diesel tech for a pump rental company and our Deere,Cat and JCB engines all have a 1000 hour filter change recommendation for the DEF filter. Deere actually has 2 filters in the newest systems. One in the pump and one in line. The truck is recently new to me so I’m still learning about it

I haven't found one on my 2014 and no mention in OM as a maintenance item. Maybe a newer thing on equipment that is used in dirt/dusty environments. I've got 176K on the clock and just putting fluid in it. DEF pump was leaking and cause it to not give level reading but would pump. This cause a de-rate and needed to be replace. I looked and it was just a pump with float similar to a fuel pump/gauge setup. Just remember that DEF has a shorter life with heat. Run it til low level light and refill with fresh for amount of driving to avoid going bad.

The service manual states that there is a filter to prevent foreign objects from getting into the pump. It's non-replacable, so nothing more than just fill and drive!

Thank you for taking the time to check for me. I’m very familiar with the heat issues. Had a customer last that was storing the def in the convenient compartment in the front of an enclosed pump. Right in front of the radiator with a forward blowing fan. Took me a little bit to figure that one out. Had another that added water to the def system when they didn’t have enough def. Concentration level went down to 27% and shut the unit down. It’s fun stuff

I keep an emergency storage of 1 container of DEF in my wine cellar basement. I only keep it down there for 1 year before use.

I'll either use it on the Cummins work truck or the EcoD. Then replace the jug.

My local Walmarts now put tags on the PEAK DEF containers that have dates. Last night when I was at Walmart, I had to get something from that area and checked the dates, and the DEF label code was 3/19/2024 and shipment date was 3/22/2024. Can't get no fresher than that!

If it is stored properly it can be years old no problem, if stored wrong one month can kill it.

I have a truck stop on my way home so I just put the DEF nozzle in and pump it in and I usually do not allow the DEF gage to go much below 1/2 to 1/3 and the price is only about 3.30 / gal and I use the trip 2 to measure the mpg and this usually comes out to about 800+ miles per gal of DEF. So I think that DEF is also pretty fresh and have never had a problem.
