Hello 24V Brothers!

I'm looking for an HX35 Turbo for my 1992 First Gen. I found this one on Ebay.

HX35 Turbo or HY35

Can anyone tell me with certainty whether it's a HX35 or HY35?

I'm currently runing the OEM H1C w/ a 12cm3 (from a 2nd Gen)..... will this turbo fit a First Gen?

Here's my $.02 worth....

The HY-35's turbine inlet flange (Garrett T3 style... ) will fit the first gen's exhaust manifold.

I believe the exhaust discharge (downpipe) is the same (3") as your H1C... all you have to do is remove the HY's "elbow" and bolt on a 5-bolt discharge adapter... . just like the HX-35W uses.

You'd certainly have to put a bigger exhaust housing on it - unless you don't have much fuel... then you'd probably be okay.

The HY's spool real quick (compared to an H1C with like a 18cm² turbine housing... )... . but the 9cm² turbine housing will limit your top end.

I don't know how much you'd really gain over the H1C - except that it's a newer turbo with a more aggressive compressor wheel/housing... and a slightly bigger compressor inlet. I don't see any huge gains... .

I'd be wary........

It looks like an HY turbo with the hard lined wastegate but they didn't come out until the 2001 models. He say's it's a 99 being parted and that would make it an HX.

Thanks...

Thanks for the info... ... ... .

I found a used, low mileage HX35 and installed it on my First Gen yesterday.

The installation was straight forward and went well. I did have to 'clock' the compressor housing for installation on my 1992.

Permormance is about the same w/ a bit more power down low. I lost 6# of max boost w/ the HX35. Some in the know say it's due the the HX35 being more efficient than the old Holset H1C and that this is a desirable characteristic.

Any one have a thought on this?

Do you have any dyno runs with the old H1C? It would be interesting to compare those runs to new ones with your Hx35.

Hey Jeff... .

Sorry to say... ... . My trucks never been on a dyno. Just have that calibrated 'seat of the pants' meter to rely on!

Thanks!
