I have a 98. 5 with an auto, The truck has 86,000 miles. My local diesel performance guru tells me that if it is shifting fine now that a new high performance Torque converter and new valve body will be all i need to handle the upgrades i plan. I plan to install An edge comp, bhaf, dd3's, 4" exuast, bd x moniter. What do you guys think? The local guy sells BD billet T/C converters and BD Valve bodys.

Don't believe it.

Roughly six years and 86K on a transmission means that lip seals are worn, and shrinking, that there is at least some wear on the clutches and the 2nd gear band.

I bought a '98 with a bad trans, had 90K on it. The trans looked pretty good inside, but all the lip seals had shrunk, and it wouldn't hardly shift.

I wouldn't recommend removing a trans to swap the TC and not going through the trans. Too much duplicated work to pull it again WHEN it goes bad, not if!

You are planning on adding a lot of new power, why not have a fresh strong trans behind it?

Also there is a lot that goes into a good custom upgraded transmission in addition to just a TC and VB. Do it once and do it right.

PM me if you wish to ask any questions.

Hope this helps. Greg L
