I am looking at a truck 1999 Quad cab 4x4 with auto transmission, 4. 10 gears, tow pkg, hvy duty svc group with 40K miles with Bosch 275 injectors 35" MT tires, 4" exhaust (turbo back).

The fella claims to be getting close to 24mpg. I find the number to be a bit high considering the gear ratio alone. But since I am only in the market and not an owner yet I cannot deny his claims.

Anyone??

Thanks

Considering it's a 24V I'm thinking that sounds too optimistic. I would think it would be closer to 17mpg.

'99 MPG

Mine's not quite set-up the same... .

My '99 3500 (two more wheels on the ground) with 18k miles, auto, all stock, gets ~16. 2 around town, not babying the throttle.

Gets ~20mpg on the highway, empty, tailgate up, cruise set at 64mph on level ground.

Just to have a point of reference... ... ... ..... ;)

Sounds like someone's "blowin' smoke"

BTW... 'forgot to say WELCOME to the TDR

I dont really want to tell him anything since he is also a member of the TDR board, and loves his truck dearly but has to get rid of it for financial reasons. I like the truck alot, but am weary about an automatic with 35" tires and 4. 10 rear end. This will be my daily driver at least 80 miles a day.

The automatics aren't SO bad...

It should be improved for a BOMBed engine though...

Personally, I would hold out for a 6 speed!

No Way!!!

There is no way he getting 24 mpg!! I have the same setup with 36" tires and I'm around 15-17 mpg empty with 44 mile round trip from home to work with a speed from 0-80 and every thing between!!

the lowest my computer read was 12 mpg empty!!:(

I hope to get DodgeZilla back this week!!!

let us know how DodgeZilla turns out!

as far as the mileage, it seems a bit high, but if he drives it reasonably, its probably not too far off.

An auto with 35's is fine with 4. 10's. IMO I would hesitate about an auto with 3. 54's and 35's, unless of course it was a well equipped 12 valver :D :D

Sounds high to me

As per my sig. I am stock and get 17/18 empty and 12/14 towing my 5er. Running 35 in tires vs my 33 in tires will get the MPG up some but not as much as he says, I would believe 20/21 which is real good for a truck as heavy as ours. I had a 99 2500 with the auto and traded for a 01 with the 6 speed. If you are going to pull "Stuff" go with the 5 or 6 speed, If your going to race or have a "LAZY" left foot go with the auto. :D  :D :p

That is me and my 2 cents worth.

See Ya

Chris

If I treat my throttle like there is an egg between my foot and the pedal I can get almost 19. But with the fun I have, I get a solid 15 around town. And doing 65 on the freeway down to Cali I once reached almost 20mpg (helps to really really top off the tank. :p

I think that "Mr 24mpg" needs to blow smoke up someone else tail feathers. Shoot with 35's and 4. 10 I bet he sees high 14 maybe. My . 02¢ worth.
