Hello all,

Lately I've been thinking about trading my 2003 3500 CC SWB/SRW HO/6 speed 4x4 Laramie (almost totally loaded w/ 3,300 miles) for a '03/'04 3500 CC SWB/SRW HO/auto 4x4 SLT or Laramie. Don't get me wrong, I love the truck, but sometimes I really hate having the stick (i. e. heavy bumper-to-bumper traffic, backing in tight places, etc. ).

So, last week I called my local dealer, told him what I was looking to do and asked him if he could do a search for a replacement truck. He called me a few days later and said that he found 2 trucks, so I told him I would stop by tonight and he could appraise my 2003. Well, I almost feel out of my chair when he told me that he would give me $23,700.. I can't believe that the value of this truck has dropped over 40% (or roughly $16,000 below what I paid), since I bought it a month ago. Does this sound right? I'll swap in an auto (the right way) for less than $16,000- much less!

Thanks,

Ryan

Dealers need to make a profit. Try E-Bay, with a minimum price where you need it to be. With it still under factory warranty, depending on miles, someone may want to buy one already broken-in.

used 2003

rmcnumee,

DBVZ is right on with the E-BAY idea. Someone in California wanting a SRW 2003 HO can buy yours and legally regrester it there without all the game playing. Advertise it as legal in CA. Good luck

Well,

The dealer said that they got the trade value via Galves, so I logged onto my Galves.com account, entered my truck's info and it returned a trade value of $29,050. Hmmm

Wow

And don't forget you cant call them stealer's at least not here. I just about had to have cpr when the dealer here wanted 14. 10 for a quart of syncromesh fluid.

$14. 10 a qt. , try $27 a qt. for the 5 spd sh ,uh , stuff!! $16,000 in a month, sell it privately and find a new dealer to buy from!:D

It is always better to sell privately but it can be a pita. I would shop around for another dealer and see what the difference is in your "deal". The main thing is the amount you have to write the check out for, not how the figures are manipulated around (trade in vs: discount on new rig).

Thanks for the replies everyone.

Spoke to the owner (that I've gotten to know through a buddy of mine) of a local dealership today. I told him what was going on and he offered to find me a truck ASAP no problem, even if he had to go 1500 miles to get it. In addition he said the other dealership's offer on my trade was crazy. He thought my truck was worth atleast $30,000. So, we'll see what happens.
