SENTINAL or PRODIGY

Larger tires 15 to 16 for 5er

I'm going to tow and haul this weekend and I am curious if I am overloading my truck or not.

In the bed I plan to have 2 Harley Davidson Wide Glides (@ 640 lbs each) and on the hitch, a 30' Scarab weighing in at about 7000 lbs.

Can my truck handle this much? It's a 98. 5 2500 (8800) 4x4 with 315 BFG AT's

Thanks,

Jeff

The weight on the truck is almost 2000 lbs. (1280 for the bikes and roughly 700 lbs of tongue weight) thats defintely putting you pretty close if not over the GVWR.

The truck can handle it but how well can you stop is the real problem.

Don't forget the trailer weight. Like Nathan brings up, even though the trailer has brakes on it, drive like your brakes are marginal. Other members have towed much larger loads.

With a utility trailer (12,000lbs rating, 2,500 empty) with 9,000+ of skidloader, hoe attachment, buckets, 100Gal fuel, and two people (not to mention all the tools and other junk in the bed of my truck, I have no problem stopping. I also drive very cautious and give my self plenty of extra stopping distance. I cheeted though, because I have an exhaust brake and 6-speed.

Your truck will stop that weight, just give yourself plenty of distance and drive carefully.

I'll leave plenaty of distance to stop, I don't want any fiberglass or chrome from load in my cab.

Thanks for all the info, it has eliminated my concerns. Now I can focus on the fact that I'll be in Ft. Lauderdale on college Spring Break!!! Oo. Oo.
