Reborn RAM

New to CTD's

bought a 97 ctd in march. just wanted to get some opinions on if it is pretty stock or if it has been bombed?

Things i notice... . k&n air filter, 3 guages on dash (pyro, boost, temp) and an extra fuel tank in bed. Optima batteries 70k on truck

i am told the pyro is post turbo and commonly hits 600 degrees. the boost will hit 30 with no problem. Finally i notice what i think is turbo bark on ocasion and eliminated it after reading about it on this site.

are these charistics of a stock truck. what can i look for to see if there any mods under the hood i. e. fuel plate etc

love the site... cant believe i waited so long to join

Sure doesn't sound stock. Probably has a different fuel plate. Stock 97 generally maxes at around 20lb boost if it gets that high.

I'm willing to bet if you're hitting 30# of boost, she ain't stock. Take a look at the starwheel and check the pump housing to see of plate's been added.

Help me out here i am not very mechanically inclined... starwheel and pump housing?????what am i looking for?

thanks for alll your help

pump inspection

What you would be looking for is on the Injection pump located towards the front of the engine on the drivers side. At the back end just past the injector lines, on the top is the AFC housing. The housing has one break off screw that would have been removed to swap out or slide the fueling plate.

In addition to what everyone has added, I'd like to offer a suggestion.

This is ONLY my personal opinion, but I'd move that pyro sensor to a pre-turbo location, or add another one pre-turbo so you could have both. Reason being, since the truck appears to be modified, it's good insurance.

Again, this is ONLY my personal opinion...

BTW, enjoy that truck!

Duane,I very strongly second your opinion.

I think a post turbo pyro is next to useless. In my 91 I had at least a 450 deg difference; never hit 900 post turbo for that week; 28 psi. I hit 1350 up the same hill, same pump settings, and backed out of it, about 26psi. 600 post turbo shouldnt be too bad, unless it's 6" back from the turbo. Put the probe in the manifold, where God intended it. There is more than enough info on this subject, and debate over it gets almost as heated as the dino vs synthetic, or who has the best aftermarket auto.
