Hello all,

I been looking around for a used 12V 2500 Reg. Cab 4x4 and I found one at a local dealer, but it seems that they are asking way too much- around $22,900 and the mileage is over 68,000. Listed below is the truck tell me what you think.

1997 Ram 2500 SLT Laramie Regular Cab 4x4

12V Cummins TD/auto

Garnet Red (medium, not dark) with Driftwood on the bottom

Options:

1. Air Conditioning

2. Power mirrors

3. Power drivers side

4. Bedliner

5. Tinted glass

6. Overhead console and computer

7. ABS

8. Auto dim rear view mirror

9. Full cloth and carpeted interior

10. Towing package

11. Snow plow prep package (no physical plow)

The truck is in very good condition, both inside and out with no rust, dents, dings, rips in the cloth interior, but I've gone to NADA, Kelly Blue Book and Edmunds and they all place the retail value in the $17,000 range. What are others paying for trucks like this and are they really "worth" $22,000 to some people? I'm thinking that they would take an offer of $17,500 to $18,000. What do you think? I just can't see them having more than a few hundred dollars into it and they probably took in on trade for a new Ram, so how much did they really pay for it. Probably not much either way in my opinion.

Thanks

Ryan

Seams way too high to me too, check the classified adds here and do some comparisons and if need be and you really like that truck than print off the adds here and go show the fool.

cheers, Kevin

Keven,

Even in Alaska that is way too high. With 68k on the odometer it is a high milage truck. I bought my 97 two years ago and I didn't pay that much for it and it had a Pac break, horton clutch fan, window vent shades for all windows, running boards and aux lights. I know that those things do not up the retail price but they all cost someone money and this time it was the seller.

There is a very nicely equipped 97 clubcab in the classifieds right now for 17k that is a whole lot nicer than the one you linked to. It has a little over 100K miles on it, but has a couple grand in nice mods. 22K for that truck is WAY too much, it should sell for somewhere around 15-16K.

I wouldnt pay that much unless it was already set up to race. And then maybe. I have a fairly well equipt 97 3500 with moderate bombs in it now. and i think 17k would be pushing it. were i you make the offer at 17k and tell them take it or leave it. I looked on auto trader today and saw a butt load of 12v's for 10k-18k with pretty much the same pkg.

I just went thru this. In november I bought the 97 I have now. It is a 1997 2500 4x4 loaded to the brim. It is an extended cab. At the time of purchase it had 56,000. I only paid 21,000 and I thought it was a little high, but can deal with it. It had the combo of 4X4, manual, and low miles. The NADA was 20,000 and i got away with murder at a dealer to get it down as much as I did. They wanted 24,900 until we started talking. The thing that you need to keep in mind with dealers and blue book prices are they put values on things that NADA does not. The dealers will put a value on anything if it helps them, the NADA does not. Trust me I used to work with the values everyday. Kelly Blue book will give you a higher booking than NADA. If you are financing and the bank says it is to high, take them an itemized list from the stealer that shows there values and they should accept this. You know that little piece of paper on the truck window. There are plenty of trucks around. Even here in NM were trucks run slim you can find them. TX is a great place to look. When you buy a new you get to work all the kinks out of it, and then the fun stuff starts.

I have plenty more info if you want it. Just give me a PM

Hope this helps

MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wish I could have gotten away with asking that kind of cash and srewing a potential buyer when I sold my truck! That truck is worth $14K tops in my opinion. Check Ebay, check under a rock, go anywhere else but $22K for a reg cab stock 4x4 is extremely overpriced.

My 97 had 131,000 when I bought but is real nice shape and I got it for15,000 out the door a year and half ago. Any truck in texas ove 3 years old has 100,000 on it but highway miles.

rmcnamee,

If your willing to come to PA to buy, I can PM you with some phone numbers. Later today, I will go through some current adds to see if anyone has something similar to the truck you speced out.

Thanks for all the responses everybody. I would be willing to travel to PA, so long as it is not extreme western PA, unless it was a real good deal.

Thanks again

Ryan

i paid $16k for my 96 with 59k on it a year ago. looks just like this truck. don't forget the $1k your going to spend getting the pin tabbed, timing adjust, front end fixed, brakes replaced, tps replaced or fixed, etc, etc... ... ... ... ...

Jeez, I paid 22000 for my 2000 quad cab 4x4 2 yrs ago with 49K on it,and it was only 15 months old. I got it from NJ. Wow that truck probaly was only 26000 brand new, maybe less out the door. I would think 15K would buy that truck here, easily.

That is waaay to much for a 97 reg cab 4x4, in comparison I sold just today a 2000 Quad cab ctd 8'bed 4x4 auto 50,xxx loaded with all that truck has and more for 23,250. Look around they are out there!

I have an 02 with 8,XXX miles 6 speed HO

truck price

I paid $15,200 for a '95, reg. cab, 4x4, clean, 54200 miles about 1 year ago! Good clean ones are hard to find in our area. The one you are talking about sounds a little high! jps

The trade in value is only about 12,500. So I'll bet they have even less in it than that. 3 weeks ago I picked up a 99 4x4 quad cab with a 5-speed 82,000miles and the slt package for 14,500.

Granted, I got it from a friend who is a dealer, so I only paid low book. But with the 0% financing going around, plus the economy, the used car market had dropped a bunch.
