Question on AFC pump on 98

Travel Trailer Owners, I need your help

Last time I changed my oil, I discovered that all that remained of my Filter Minder, was the clear plastic bowl. The top of the bowl had cracked all the way around, and the sping that was inside evidently ejected the top and internal pieces.

Someone was kind enough to send me their old one and I noticed that, it too, is cracking in a similar way.

My truck is only one year old and I would think these things should last longer than this. Replacement cost is ~$60. 00! I know they really don't work but it disturbes me to have anything broken on my vehicles #ad

Would be interested if anyone else is experiencing this problem?

Thanks,

As cheap as they seem, the filter minders do work,no cracks on both my '95s. They do warn you not to expose the minder to engine degreasers though, but I would think degreasers would melt it rather than crack it.

My filter minder has never moved. Not once in over 75,000 miles.

Mine either. 23,000 miles. Do we really need a K& N air cleaner?

2k, 22k miles, QC, 4x, 6sp, 3. 54,285/75r16 bfg/at, stock air cleaner (reliable), silencer ring "in" (runs better), popup cmpr, 9000 lbs. 14. 5-16 mpg (w/camper), 17. 5-19 (empty). VA, DD1's, PS Boost module, DD Elbow... also, Nitrous Oxide piped direct into the block (stealth - to keep the warranty), twin turbos, 10 gallon per minute fuel pump, ECM right out of Don Garlit's Top Fueler (he gave it to me) (for letting him ride in my truck), Super Modified DD1 Injectors ("Hand Honed" with a 1/4" reamer & my 12v (thats "volts" not "valves") Makita). :) More BOMBING to come!!

Mine 96's is working fine. Usually mine will hit red zone just over 30,000. Will start dropping fast as I close in on 30,000.
Any mods to turbo/exhaust that would cause to much pressure in filter minder? Or could the mods cause it at all?

MM,it's actually a vacuum gage, I doubt if any mod or clogged up filter would cause the guts to be sucked out!A clogged filter with with a bigger turbo & exaust system along with a heavy foot could cause it to peg all the time, which of course isn't an accurate reading.

Mine works! Let me know that my snorkel (from airbox to fenderwell) was collapsing under WOT. Yanked the snorkel, and know the filterminder is resting peacefully again.

'01 Eth 3500 dually, no mods planned except maybe an amsoil filter & guages. See My Truck and also be sure to read What tools & methods to use for an easy 1st oil change!!!

I have 60K miles and it barely moves. Should I be concerned?

almost 64K - I've never seen it move - ever - and the reset button always seemed ineffective. I just change it every 15K or so.

Mine's never moved. But I did remove the "boot". Sweeeet turbo whine!! I put the silencer ring BACK IN! It was a little too shrill! Now it sounds GOOOD!!

illflem, Your right vacuum not pressure.
But by pegging it, I take it you mean it will suck that thing down to the red zone(25). Now the question is after it pegs for above mentioned reasons(yours) will it stay down there or will rocket back to original position after driver cuts his foot off (releases pedal)? and in doing so would it crack top of air filter and/or jettison out of top of minder?

MM, the filter minder stays at the peak vacuum (at least that the way it's supposed to work and mine does). You have to press the button on the top to reset it - which brings it back to zero. My filter minder has been working fine btw.

Mine works that way to. Just trying to make sense why others are cracking.
My thoughts are that it is going down but not staying and popping back up, or the air breather box isn't bolted down and its hitting the top of the hood, or there are a few out there that are just junk(defective-plastic).
