ISB is Cummins designation for the 24v engines... The "e" stand for echo due to the quietness of the engine

the 24v vp44 was electronic fuel injection too...



the IS stands for Interact System. it is the ecm & coding used with the engines [isb, isc, isl, ism, isx, i think qsb, qsk, qsx also use the IS ecm's]



the B is just the engine classification. b series, c series...

you don't need to have an electrical connection between the injector and ecm to be called electronic fuel injection. as long as it is an electronically controlled pump with the ecm having full control over the fueling, it is electronic fuel injection.



take a look at an engine that has electronic unit pumps on it. it is called EFI but there is no electrical connection to the nozzle. it works nearly identically in principal to an electronic unit injector, but in the EUI, the control cartridge and pumping element is mounted directally to the nozzle instead of being remote mount with a HP line between them. still called efi.



i am only talking diesels. with gasoline engines, they need to have a direct electrical connection to the injectors for power to open the pintle on them. diesels use the hydraulic pressure/pressure differential to open the nozzle, even on the HPCR injectors
 
True, I only was saying I thought the "e" was for electronic because the HPCR injectors are directly controlled by the ECM much the same way as gas except for the pressure differential needed for the high pressures used.
