Ironic??? Hell yes!!!!

On another note I would have been pulling the pin long before that shot..... body damage or not. .

Aptly named! Someone had great foresight.

It's a pos KZ toy hauler far too large and far too heavy for the tow vehicle. Apparently the dumbaxe who owns it was waiting for the fire to consume his truck as well. I would have pulled the pin and driven out from under that inferno (no pun intended). I could handle the bed damage but I wouldn't be dumb enough to stand and watch while my truck was also destroyed.

HB- It just amazing how many people here in Ca pull 36' plus triple axle toy haulers with short bed 2500's. A lot of them are running 35" or bigger tires with 3:73 R&P also.

I don't have much room to talk, though. I have a 36' triple axle TH also. I know my dually conversion doesn't make my setup legal but it does make us more safe when towing. I know that I will never buy another SRW.

I had a motorhome engine (front) catch on fire once. Hooked to it was a bass boat that was less than 6 months old. My partner and I had that trailer unlatched and at about 40mph rearward ran out of safety chain:-laf Once the chains were unhooked we pushed it clear and watched the rig burn. Kinda sucked since we were 500 miles from home, my wallet was inside laying on the dash and it was late at night. The good news was no one was injured and insurance reimbursed me market value, not what I had paid for it.

Yeah, a lot of the old fools in TX do the same thing. To them a 3/4 ton is a big heavy truck.

The dual rear wheels are what matters. As long as you're private no one should ever see your GVWR tag in the door post. If you were commercial and have a CDL A DOT wouldn't care about the VIN tag, only the tires and dually rear axle.

A friend of mine is shopping for his first fifthwheel travel trailer and wants a good used unit. He was talking to one of the two sales reps at NuWa in Chanute today on the phone who told him, "don't come up here with a single rear wheel truck or a 16k hitch thinking you're going to buy that trailer. " The trailer in question has a GVWR in the mid 15k range.

That's good advice. I was glad Orville told my friend that. It's the same advice I had been giving him. He bought a fine new Ram dually.

I would not have pulled that rig with the 2500, unless I knew it was within the axle ratings. But what has the fire to do with the 2500 pulling it?

Speaking as one who has survived a house fire and has the scars to prove it, no way would I ever try and disconnect that truck from the trailer while it was on fire. All it takes is to watch the doctors cut the dead dangling skin off your hand in the emergency room to realize that it is only a stupid truck that will be replaced a whole lot quicker than it takes for the skin grafts to heal and the pain to go away.

Hey Guys, this is EXPERIENCE first hand speaking, good advice.
