I also have a '97. It replaces the fitting on the rubber hose, that is on the turbo itself. Not on th AFC housing. Fitting is screwed into the compressor housing on the turbo.
 
I put mine on the back of the AFC housing (tst boost elbow), but I wonder if I can do the same on the turbo, because this might induce more boost than the stock turbo can handle?
 
Is yours setup this way (see pic)? My line off the AFC housing doesn't have a "T" fitting on it. Just runs straight from the manifold. If it is, you should be fine.

When you look at the directions, it was on about step 10 when it states that if your truck looks like figure two then go to step 11. The point is that some of the trucks get it installed on the turbo (like mine) while others get it put at the AFC. It just depends on the vintage of the engine.
