Which gauges should I install?

Hi, New memeber here. I have a rattle in my boost gauge. I installed it and EGT gauge in a two gauge pillar mount. When I accelerate real hard it rattles. I have checked the tubing, wires and made sure the gauge was tight. I can't figure it out. Has anybody had this problem?

1) Take the guage out and hold it while getting it to rattle. (Drive carefilly!)
2) If it stops, its the mount. If it still does it, try it with the hose disconnected from the engine. (plug the hole)
You are trying to determine if the guage is making the noise, if the tube is telegraphing engine (or something) noise or if the mounting is somehow causing it.
If you can't determine it, call Ispro and ask their tech people. Very helpful and knowledgable. This is the best business I have delt with in years.
Good Luck.

I had a similar problem with my ISSPro boost gauge. I tightened the brass nut a little more (but not too much!), and the "rattle" went away.

Sure is anoying, isn't it!

I too had the same problem after I installed the PS boost module & elbow. . My gauge would start to rattle at high boost readings 25-30+, however my gauge was a 0-30 type and I changed it to the 0-50. . Since the change I have no more rattle or noise??? It just may of been the brass nut and I corrected it by changing to a different gauge. Try tightening the brass nut first like CCollar advised. If that doesn't work get a new gauge!!!

I also have Isspro. One more thought. If you leave too much slack in the boost tubing inside the pillar mount, it seems to rattle under heavy boost. I left too much slack. I shortened it up and most of the rattle went away. Still rattles a little bit, but I haven't had time to mess with it again. It is worth a try.

I had the same problem, Under heavy throttle there was a rattle, I determined it was the Boost tubing transmitting the psi drop by #4 Clyinder Intake Valves opening. So I took the pillar Mount off and wraped the Boost tubing with that special foam packing stuff that my VA Box came wraped in. The Rattle is Gone Now. . #ad

If the needle fluctuates rapidly then the orifice is too large in the system. Try tightening a snap tie one notch at a time on the rubber hose until the needle settles down.

Mine 0-30# did that too. Now I have a 0-50# and it still does it. I just turn the radio up a little more. Seriously, I think it is slack in the line vibrating and not the gauge.

The post about the #4 cylinder valve causing is it is accurate. Think about it - the turbo is spinning continuously thus pressurizing the intake, but the valves opening is a very fast intermittent drop of pressure in the system.

I had the ISSPRO's also and got rid of them because of that and the EGT reading WRONG - read 50F outside here in Houston when it was about 110F. I tried a $20 gauge (from work), and it did the same thing. They are cheap gauges - problems like this, boost and EGT gauge don't even match, etc. I tried them first because they were the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Thanks for letting me vent - pi$$ed me off to have to take them out and install new ones. #ad
Only good thing was the DIS of Texas took them back - very friendly people.

My Isspro boost guage needle vibrates when pulling in 5th real hard at about 15-20 psi (1700 RPM).
I thought it might be engine vibration but not sure. When it starts to rattle it's outta there.

It ain't just the #4 intake valve ... it's all of 'em. Manifold pressure drops briefly every time a valve opens, and surges briefly every time a valve closes. The gauge rattle seems to get worse as boost exceeds 20 psi. Cure it with an inline orifice to slow down what the gauge sees, add a length of rubber tubing to buffer it or get a Spa gauge which will electronically average it.

My Isspro did the same thing... I called the factory and they offered little if any help. I solved the problem by removing the 1/8" tubing adapter that was installed in the intake manifold, soldering the hole shut with 50/50 solder, then drilling a hole through the solder with a #71 drill bit, which measures . 026” in diameter. I started with a tiny hole, and increased the size until the gauge responded quickly but didn't rattle.

Just a note on the positive for Isspro. I have a 0-30 'Manifold Pressure' guage from Isspro and it works great. No rattle and records accurate boost on my stock 215 hp 96 of 24 lbs boost.

I also use two 0-2000 F EGT's from Isspro on my Rotary powered Road Race car and there work great.

Back to the boost guage. I currently have the 5/16 hdpe opaque tubing (icemaker tubing) with compression fittings. If the line is what is vibrating for mostpeople, suggest that you look for a heavier walled plastic tubing, available from a lab supply company. I have some from work but have not replaced the thinner tubing you get from Home Depot.

Isspro is a good company.

My Westach did the same thing. I thought it was the high boost but turned out that it was at 2700 RPMs that it happened. It didn't matter what the boost was. I believe the #4 theory. I tried everything I could think of to get rid of it and nothing worked. I switched over to SPAs a couple of weeks ago. That eliminated the problem immediately. #ad
The downshot is that I like analog cause I don't have to think about it.

My gauge is 0-50. No noise or flutter at 32 psi with ispro install parts. The #4 valve is an interesting possibility but that means that every time a valve opens, the pressure drops measureably. Hmmmmm.....
Still thinking.....
My line is attached to the head accross from the #2 or 3 cylinder as I recall (on the vertical surface). No fluctuation. Quick responce. Maybe a different location would help? Let us know what you find.

Perhaps two orifices inline would quiet these things down. Response would be slower but the added dampening of the 2nd small hole might overcome the pulsing heard at the guage.
