I have been looking at gauges for almost two years. (I know, too long). My hangup has always been looks: I want gauges that look like OEM.

I've given up on VDO, even though they look like OEM, because they don't have the gauges I want: Fuel pressure to 30 psi and boost to at least 40 lbs.

So, now Isspro has the new EV with red pointers. I understand the red needles are LIT and that the black gauges are "through the dial. "

Two questions:

For those that have these or are very familiar with them (if any), how do they compare to the OEM at night?

Any ideas about the best vendor for service and price?

Thanks.

PS

The only other ones I'm even looking at beside the Isspro EVs are the Di Pricol's offered by www.dieselpowerproducts.com

There's another post somewhere that has good info about the EVs - I did one of them. Think it was about "gauges and night vision". Craig

I have the white needles in the EV series and they are back lite and I have no problem with them I just dont like white needles. I am planning on upgrading to the RED needles after Christmas.

Mine came from Diesel Injection of Dallas Texas and the price was great.

Yeah Craig, you're right. That thread was titled: Gauges & night illumination and this is the link:

https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=59075

On that thread, there is a picture of the Di Pricols at night. I was sort of hoping for someone with the new EV series to shed some "light" on their experience with them. Seems like there is very little experience with the new EVs with the red pointers, as of yet.

In the thread REF above:

JohnE said "Isspro EV with the new red/orange pointers is the closest you will find to OEM in appearance. "

JohnE then responded again and said "I have the first generation EV series and can only use that as first hand reference. The pyro and boost gauges use a backlit dial face with an opaque illuminated pointer. The center black dot is to direct the illumination to the ponter and not shine in your face. My only complaint is they are brighter than OEM, but that is easier to fix than dimmer. Changing my exisiting setup to an orange pointer would be a near perfect match to OEM and the gauge scale I desire".

Craig, I believe you were looking at a book or manual when you commented on the new EVs the first time. Did the book say describe which gauges were currently available with the red "lit" pointers? You also evidently went ahead and got one gauge in the new EV style: "I just put in a new EV 40lb man press gauge. The red needle matches the OEMs perfectly. The backlit numbers and letters are off white - Ill try a green bulb or condom, but not a biggie to me. "

Did you have any success in changing the backlighting color?

I'm just trying to focus in on these new Isspro EVs as they are evidently the answer to my quest (and that of some others, I believe). I just want to be sure before ordering them. :)

Red pointers on ISSPRO

I have the EV ISSPRO gauges with the red pointers. Boost to 40 PSI, EGT and transmission temp on A pillar. Link the gauges very much. The lighting is great, even a little brighter than factory, but not TOO bright. The red pointers are illuminated, and visible. Hard to describe... but I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I bought them from DIS (Diesel Injection Service) from their website. Lowest price I found, and paid $6 to have then paint the pillar to match my interior. Very satisfied with ISSPRO EV gauges and DIS.

cdpsrjc, do you know if they have come out with a Fuel Pressure gauge in the new EV-red needle series? Also, how does the color of the numbers compare with OEM? I know some gauges are, say, greenish vs. the OEM being kinda blue?

Thanks.

BigMo,

Sorry, can't help you with Isspro FP gauge. I have a Westach mounted in the cubby hole. The color of the Isspro's is a little more green than the OEM, BUT, not that different. I think the color difference has more to do with brightness than color. The bulb covers were blue- green. Since I can't watch 'em all at the same time ;) , I don't worry about it and just enjoy the gauges. If you like the looks of the EV, you'll love the gauges in your CTD.

My $. 02.....

Richard

This will probably sound stupid, but I feel like I'm about to finish a long foot-race. It will be worth the effort, though. Of that, I have no doubt.

Thanks.

This is the one disappointment I've had with the new red pointer gauges from IssPro: They don't offer a red pointer on the 5604, nor do they have any plans on doing so until the electric fp gauge is ready for release.

I've been bugging Kelly to get the red pointers on the 5604, and she's put it on the list, however there hasn't been enough interest yet to get it moved up in the priority scale.

I have the EV with white pointers, I put green lights in they would look like OEM if they had the red pointers. The EGT gauge is some time effected by (Raido or micro waves) the first time it happens you think that you may have something worng, but then the pointer comes back to normal.

Isspro EV gauges

BigMO, I highly recommend Diesel injection service of Texas, http://dieselpage.com. DIS has great prices and the instructions to install as well on the website.

They look very similiar to the OEM depending on the condom you put on the bulb, and how bright you have you backlighting. I have notice on my OEM the lower the dimmer the greener the look and just the opposite for brighter the more blue they look.

Just my 2 cents.

Good luck and enjoy!

Dave

Thanks Dave. I'll contact DIS, but now I'm not so sure because . . . . .

Well Crud! as my old HS math teacher used to say! This is the same problem I ran into with VDO. Dang it. I was all set to buy three gauges and thought I'd found a manufacturer who made all three in a style I wanted. But now, you're saying they don't make a FP in this style.

I can't believe it. Sigh . . . :(

Isopro EV

I love the ISOpro EV series, white pointers but you would notice them. I have the green blub covers on the transmission and boost guage, the multicolor face already look OEM at night.

I waiting for their Fuel Guage kit.

thanks:rolleyes:

I only saw the new red pointers in the box. I haven't seen them in operation (illumination) and that's why I limited my comments to my gauges. The literature described it as having the same back lit dial and illuminated pointer as my opaque (white) needle EVs.

The wait for the EVs was very satisfying even with the opaque needles. The only problem is that they are brighter than OEM and I want to get a separate dimmer switch. The ISSPRO with green bulb covers doesn't quite match the OEM blue.

A local TDR member, JStordahl, recently installed a set of ISSPRO with the red pointers and emailed me that the look is almost factory. He too said the ISSPRO with green bulb covers doesn't quite match the OEM blue.

A fuel pressure gauge is something you have for piece of mind and not constant monitoring. You could always mount the the old style opaque needle gauge in a different location than the boost and pyro gagues.

the Fuel Gauge ...

Thanks for the comments and clarification, JohnE. And, you may be right about just needing to check the FP occassionally. :)

However, I've become concerned about monitoring Fuel Pressure since reading about all the problems on TDR. Also, when my truck recently visited its mechanic for the Pacbrake installation, he asked if I had extended coverage on it (the truck). When I asked why, he said that he'd been seeing a bunch of the VP44s go bad and that they were very expensive to replace (which we all know to be true).

So, I would like that gauge to be up where I can see it (and I still want it to match :( ). From some threads on this board, I believe some trucks have quite a fluctuation in their fuel pressure readings. Seems like this gauge would be pretty important to us 24 valvers, especially those who've "improved" their truck's performance! :D

Get on www.isspro.com. You can get a catalog for free - it took about 5 days to come. It has pictures - their wwwsite doesn't have all the pictures. The R5610R 40lb EV was $50. 99 to my door from Isspro E-order. They have full instructions on line also. Bigmo, I think the EV red pointer is perfect. I got the man press first - that was my worst one for night light. The kids got the pyro pt# for my christmas/b-day surprise. I wasn't sure about the bulb cover thing when I ordered. I'll find a green bulb or cover now and see what it does to the #s. My oems are faintly green - the EVs are off white with a plain bulb. Isspro couldn't comment on what the colored bulbs will do to the pointer color - I'll find out. Craig

BigMo,

I just put the new red-pointer ev's in my truck about a week ago. I have the pyro 0-1500, boost 0-40, and trans 100-(can't remember).

I am happy with them so far. The only complaints I have to date, are the boost rattle problem that many seem to have, and the numbers are more green than the dash gauges. I am waiting to hear of a way to give the lighting a more bluish look.

Other than the color of the backlighting, I think they are a perfect match to OEM, and I too stressed myself over finding gauges that were as close to factory as possible.

Good Luck,

Chris
