spent most of the day installing the gauges. fp, egt, and boost. once in, i'm all:) :) . numbers look good. only surprise was how fast my stock setup raises egt under WOT.

gauges look great, and really look good at night:D

a BIG thanks to Doug at Advanced Diesel Technology for the help and getting me the gauges.

Well I guess you just gonna have to BOMB that engine to get those EGT's under control... ... ..... ;) :p ;) won't ya.

Did you mount the pyro sender pre- or post-turbo? If pre-, how did you handle the metal shavings when your drilled the manifold?

Congrats on getting this done. I ordered VDO Vision a year ago, but they never came in and I'm still "sittin' on the pot" about which gauges to get ..... I want `em to match OEM, but I want FP and good boost range, too. Decisions, decisions...

glenn, since i can hit 1100 degrees pre turbo quickly, won't adding a "box" without a higher flow turbo make the egt rise faster and higher?

bigmo, i have a probe preturbo and post turbo both. i plan to run a few days with the pre turbo hooked in, then add a dp/dt switch in the leads from the probes, and the signal amplifier pickup. i want to get a baseline so i can get some idea how much the switch alters accuracy. as for drilling, i read various hints, and did what i thought made the most sense. lube the drills and taps with heavy axle grease, then just before installing the probes, stick a small mechanic's magnet in the hole and "sweep" the manifold for shavings. there really wasn't much to pickup. :)

I hope you'll share your experiment results with us! Your setup is what I've decided to go with: Around town, the post-turbo readings would seem to be most important, yet pre-turbo would be better when under a load.

Good luck with your experiment.

EGT

marshall. i think i'm going to try to get the switch installed tomorrow. i'll let you know what happens. btw, got the guts to hold it down tonite to see where the egt would level off--1200 degrees, preturbo.

later, i'm going to rig a way to switch sites for the fp sampling, so i can check fp pre and post filter. now i'm hooked in at the VP44. ;)

switched EGT

DP/DT switch installed yesterday. it appears there is no effect of doing that. obviously there is room for error, but normal cruising EGT and WOT EGT are the same within the limits of my memeory. it appears that the switch doesn't change the values appreciably.

another member in an e-mail to me said he thought my EGT numbers maight be a little high. i guess better high than low?

nice gauges... ... ... ... :D
