Here I am

Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) It feels like transmission, but is it the engine?

I have a 98. 5 24v, manual trans, 4x4 basic stock truck and 109,000mi. I was towing my 5th wheel in 80 degree weather up a very long 6% grade. Three different times under extreme stress (3rd gear, 2600rpm) and pulling hard, I felt what seemed like a "slip" on oil or something. Hard to explain. Basically, it was as if the engine cut out but for a fraction of a second then kept on pulling. The first time it happened I truely thought it was the limited slip diff kicking in due to a slick patch in the road. After all, going about 37mph and hitting a small slick would feel just like what I'm trying to explain.

So what am I asking all you good folks? Since there is no engine light, would there be any codes? Would this be an injector problem? How can I get this diagnosed without the dealer crooks raking me over the coals? If only I lived somewhere where there were decent non-dealer cummins knowledgable folks. Heck, even the regional Cummins service center has not been that helpful in the past for me since they only work on school busses best I can tell . .

help ?
