12,000 miles of perfect service and i now have to have a new turbo and dpf . all of the sudden without a cel or code my truck started acting like a carbereter with a dead spot . it would fall on its nose spit back and pick up while emitting a huge plume of smoke . sometimes the ebrake would come on violently and wouldn't want to release and other times it wouldn't work at all . the diesel mechanic says turbo is shot and dpf is cracked . i am now dreaming of a day when we could delete this crap and not worry about voiding our warranty . i guess its only a dream though . :{

That's bad news. Apparently the sliding or variable nozzle turbo binds if it gets sooted.

Let us know how the repairs go.

I remember you recently posted about a long towing road trip. Does your truck see a lot of short trips when not on a long trip?

about the shortest trip my truck ever sees is a 10 mile round trip to town once in a while and there are 25 or 30 mile round trips mixed in with that . it mostly stays in the garage until i need it for towing . i've been very careful about not idleing it long , using ulsd fuel , and every oil change has been done by the dealer .

Have a friend that went 18,000 trouble free miles. From 18,000 to 20,000. Then a DPF,towed in twice. Several flash updates. Then a turbo. Then another turbo. He traded it for a low mileage 05 that was traded in on a 6. 7! Go figure.

That's troubling. Doesn't sound like the problem you have can be blamed on owner's driving style. I hope we don't eventually learn that the regeneration system doesn't work as it is currently designed.

dealer called today . said the turbo was ok but the egr was stuck and the dpf was busted . they have the parts on order . we'll see next week if it is fixed or not .

Thursday the Malfunction Indicator Light (little engine symbol) stayed on while the engine was running. It stayed on for a couple of trips and while I was mucking around looking for codes or information, it went away. Since I am leaving for Nova Scotia from Memphis on 8/1, I called the Chrysler Area Manager and he suggested that I get it checked out. The dealer loaded some new software (I don't know what yet as they said that they would have to mail me an invoice) and told me that there was a P2262 stored. I couldn't get it with the key operation, though. He told me that driving it aggressively with my 5th wheel would be the best thing I could do for it.

If the P2262 comes back, he indicated that they would do the turbo cleaning and replacement, if necessary, but that both the cleaning dohickey and turbos are on back order and he couldn't take care of it now anyway.

I'm hoping for the best since this will be my first trip with the '08 and it will be about 5,000 miles before we get home. By the way I have 6800 on it now.

Bob, I find my truck seems to run the best when its run aggressively. I hate to say it, as I don't like the idea of 'beating' on my things, but I suppose if ever there was a truck that could take a little abuse, these Cummins equipped pick-ups would be them.

I'm leaving Friday for an extended trip so I'm changing the oil tomorrow with only 1700 miles since last oil change. I bought an oil test kit from Geno's and I will send it in and see what shape this oil is in (hopefully I can tell what the report means) I'll post the results when I get back from Nova Scotia.

Thursday I threw another P2262. Still leaving tomorrow for Nova Scotia. I bullied the truck for a few miles and the MI light went away. I put a can of fuel additive into the tank at the dealers recommendation, also. The dealer has marked one of the back ordered dohickeys that he uses to clean out the turbo for me. Guess we'll do that when I get back.

update : truck has been at the dealer for over a week now waiting for a new dpf and egr parts . dealer said today that parts were not in yet . anybody know how long it should take to get parts ?

Don. t know for sure, but my dealer said it took a month for the last one he just installed. My truck today started throwing codes and messages on the overhead that my DFP was full and too contact dealer. I only have 6000 miles tow long trips only e brake on etc. Now I'm ******... waiting weeks, or a month is unacceptable for a replacement DFP and since I have the latest and greatest flashes, am I looking for another 6000 mile fix?

Sunday evening and we are in Littleton, MA and my truck is performing flawlessly. No codes, no problems in 2k+ miles. My only complaint so far is the sometimes rough downshifting coming down hills. So far so good.

Just found out today that I am having same issue as you have. Dealer ordering new Turbo and DPF. 27,700k on the vehicle. Truck was behaving just like the description of your issue. Wondering as to what will be happening after warranty is out on these trucks.

dealer called today and said truck was ready and running right . they replaced the butterfly in the egr , replaced the dpf and drilled and cleaned the turbo . does the cleaning really work ? should i do a dpf/egr delete now or is the turbo going to stop up again and have to be replaced ?

I suppose that answer to your question lies within. Are you ready to wipe out your warranty from the day you remove it?
