Flashed for cold weather fast idle for the third time. Three's a charm, it works. Apparently the only thing wrong with the first edition was that the polarity of the "ON/OFF" was reversed. Got to see and hear it work yesterday. We have January in October!

three times?

ol ron, how did you get them to re-flash so many times?

couple weeks ago i told the tech. that the high idle didnt work once all last winter. he pulled up the current ecm program and says its included with that part # and that star wont authorize another flash becuase its already there. (not!)

I have an interesting story about the flash programming for the cold idle. I flashed my truck and a friends truck last year around this time. The TSB says to back out of the flash screen and go into the cold idle screen and set it to enable the cold idle. Well, on my truck and my friends truck, when I got to the page to enable or disable the cold idle it said it was already enabled so I left it at that. The cold idle did not work all winter. I went back into my friends truck controller this summer and rechecked the setting. It said it was disabled. I reset it to enable the cold idle and he told me when it got down into the high twenties overnight a few weeks ago that the idle did work. I went back into my setting and it said it was disabled. I enabled it but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. My advice to anyone who is getting the flash reprogram for this is to tell the tech to UNPLUG the scan tool after the flash is done and then rehook it to enable the cold idle. I think this is why so many had problems last year with the reflash. Just my experience with the reflash.

I have a 2002 truck, is this software already in the ECM and ready to go? Or does it need to be enabled?

By the way what is the correct wording to tell the service dept in order to have this done under warranty. I'm sure if I go in and say I want it done because it would be a cool feature to have they would not do it, unless I paid for it. Do I tell them I'm having idle problems in cold weather or what??

Just print out a copy of the TSB. The TSB says that it is to prevent sticking and bent push-rods. If it is preventive you don't have to prove that the problem exists, only that your truck is exposed to the conditions that could cause the problem.

"wording" for service

Tuff,

I told them that I frequently have "hard starts" in the winter and that " I have had to idle" my truck to warm it up so it will run smooth. They had no problem reflashing the ECM. It also helped that I had a copy of TDR with the TSB with me to point it out.

I also had mine done at the same time as an oil change so it was already there. Dont know if that had a factor or not.

I however will have to have it reflashed as it never worked last year and it was plenty cold several times for it to kick in.

I have another friend who bought an '02 about six months ago and at one of our meetings I brought the scan tool and hooked to his truck and the software was already there. All I had to do was enable it. Since you live in a colder area than I do, you may get away with getting back with your selling dealer and ask if they can enable the software as a gesture of goodwill toward you, the customer. It only takes 2-3 minutes to do.
