I have resisted the BOMBing bug for over eight years...

I will hopefully be picking up a Smarty Jr on Sunday from Mid-Atlantic Diesel... its all downhill from here!

Should be a good test... going to hopefully have Lloyd help me install it at his place and then straight to Jacksonville... see what it does for mileage (sorry, no towing this time). I figure that Lloyd will have a good idea of what works and what doesn't... no need for me to be playing around with settings.

Hopefully this will ease me in gently...

it will feel like a new truck i mean sports car

Yeah, talked to Lloyd today... should be loading it on Sunday morning at his place, then I will have the rest of the trip to Jacksonville to get a feel for it. I'm hoping for more consistent mileages... I get right around 20mpg running the highway which varies from 17mpg to 23mpg... not looking for a gigantic jump, just a more consistent mileage (hopefully on the higher side of that range) that's easier to obtain.

185k... just broken in... just had the pinion seal replaced by Dodge today, we shall see if it lasts longer. After this, I'll be done for a while... spent my toy money for the year replacing parts!

I'm thinking of the 70hp (tow?) setting to start... but I'm not really sure. I'm really going to rely on Lloyd for this one... I have not researched the parameter settings of the Jr, and there is not a whole lot about them to research (like an owner's manual) that I could find.

Its not like its going to be much faster... you can only row so fast with 4. 10s as it is...

Steved,

With the Smarty on +100 and your 4. 10s, I hope you have larger than stock tires! I have 315/70/17's (34+") on mine with 3. 73s and it's all too easy to break them loose! BTW, I picked up almost 2 mpg with the Smarty, Best of Both Worlds!

Nope, just stockers... can't go any bigger because of the 5vr... actually need to go back to 245s...

I would like to be able to run 35s again, liked that look... but unless I find a good deal on a flatbed, that isn't happening.

Steve, take a look over at cumminsforum.com they have some people selling trailers cheap! Some even in PA.

Thanks, but I was talking flatbed as in a flatbed (i. e stake body?) for the truck, not a flatbed trailer.

My problem arises from not having enough clearance between the 5vr and the bedrails... axles are already flipped and the largest tires I can fit are installed... truck is still too tall.

I have considered removing the spacers under the truck's springs, but brake caliper removal then becomes a challenge.

Okay, I feel really stupid! :-laf How are you going to pull a 5vr with a flat bed trailer!

ehhh, I've seen people pulling car trailers in tandem with their 5vr, why not pull the 5vr with the flatbed trailer?? It would be easy to bolt a 5vr hitch to that flatbed, wood drills easy... :-laf

I have an '03, NV-5600, 4X4 with the "JR" & really like it. I drive in the Performance mode, when not towing. EGT's are never at a dangerous level. However, when 'towing' in the mountains (AZ. & western US) they did get a bit higher than I like (1200*+). So, I tow in the Towing mode (70 HP) & never get high temps, no matter how high the mountain. My trailer is a 25" travel trailer that weighs a bit over 7000 lbs.

Last Oct. I towed from AZ through CA, OR, WA, ID UT & back home to AZ. Never saw any high temps in the Tow mode.

My truck has a bit over 70,000 miles with the stock clutch. So far as I know, it has not slipped, once, and I spend most of my time driving in the Performance mode (100 HP).

I would buy the "JR" again. Hope this helps.

Joe F.

I also have 40hp sticks.

Unless its breaking traction in OD? Will know more this week once I run my nose over it... I still have lots of pedal...
