Neighbor down the street had a fairly new truck, not a Dodge or Chevy. Truck quit running and he had it hauled back to where he bought it. They found that the fuel filter was plugged and had messed up the injection system, big money to fix. Mechanic said filter had not been changed. They produced records showing that the #s on the fuel filter indicated it was the filter that was installed in truck at factory. Oops! Owner produced records showing that regular service had been performed including filter change at place where he purchased truck. Whoa, back to the conference room. Owner ended up with a brand new truck. bg

on SOME fuel system, fuel starvation CAN ruin injection system components...

On my 2011 Ford service truck, the local dealer had charged and performed every service since new... the truck shut down while out of town for low fuel pressure... the closest Ford dealer pulled the filters and determined that the filters in it were the ORIGINAL FILTERS, NOT replacement filters!!!!. .

Although my company had been being charged for new filters every 5K miles since new!! When it shut down it had almost 35K on the clock!!!. . Needless to say, there have been some intense "discussions"... .

That sounds like a carbon copy of what happened to my neighbors truck. bg

we have since allowed them to make some Ford engineer specified changes to try and control some of the transmission issues we have been having.

While there, I spoke with the S. A. and the S. M about the fuel filter issue... . they have assured me that it will never happen again... It has been atleast 6 months since they have gotten any $600. 00 oil changes out of us..... so they have been missing the revenue. .

We are going to allow them to do the oil change on my truck again, since they did ok on the transmission... . we will see if they have corrected their oil change tech issues...

$600 oil change? That negates most of you fuel savings on the diesel right there, and that assumes nothing else went wrong in the interim.

thats what dealerships charge us for what they consider to be a medium duty truck... . thats for oil, oil filter, DEF, and supposedly fuel filters... installed.

They NEVER grease the front suspension, add window washer fluid, brake fluid, check differential, etc... .

Its a rip off, but we are required to use a Ford dealership... . and they are ALL the same when it comes to maintenance service...

Just for grins, I checked a closed work order from last week...

An "A" level service on a 4000 Mercedes in a Class 8 tractor with a 46qt oil pan, 1 oil filter and 2 fuel filters, PLUS a full chassis and fifth wheel lube, PLUS 2 air line repairs w/fittings, PLUS labor was billed out at $339. 76 tax and all.

Them Ford's don't seem like much of a bargain..... wow. .

Mike. :)

Who requires you to use a Ford dealership??

Receipts

may be a little off topic, but I keep every single receipt, got em all the way back to the 80's. . I (my house) was recently robbed. . Insurance couldn't believe I could prove every single purchase, ever. they didn't argue my claim for one red cent. It pays to keep receipts. . and i had replacement costs coverage. . It kinda felt good to get brand new stuff thats way better than my 20 yr old crap. :)

With that kind of "service" you need to go to a real medium duty truck shop, not what is a car service shop. It was easy when I was selling medium duty trucks to take away fleet service business from Ford and GM car dealers who tried to sell/service medium duty trucks. Most car dealers don't know how or really care about servicing "dirty" diesel work trucks in their shop. They'll try to make a quick buck selling one, but after the sale, they don't want them around.

our fleet manager... .
as long as they dont start wanting us to service them ourselves!!. . hahahaha. Ford put 20 lbs of crap into a 5 lb sack!!

I wonder what the qualifications are to become a buyer or fleet manager in companies like yours that run a fleet of trucks?

Knowing anything about the trucks they buy or use in their fleet must not be a requirement.

Thought I would come back to this topic... got my oil changed on the Turd(Furd) this week at one of the same dealerships that has charged redicilous prices in the past... . Got the ticket and its about right, about $260-$265!!!!. . Loos lie they are trying to mae amends for the fuel filter "issue" we had awhile back... they even greased up the front end, which is something dealeships typically never do. !!

Also thin the reason my friends Ford isnt getting good F. E. when towing is due to the 3:31 gears... . not sure why a 4x4 off-road package would have 3:31... but thats what is in it...

Very sorry to hear about your recent robbery. I hope things are back to normal, and that you can get past that nagging fear that at any moment it'll happen again.

At the risk of getting off topic, how do you store and organize all those receipts?

I do it by year (shoe boxes) and envelopes for each quarter of a yr in the box. I have a very good memory of how long i have had something, and can usually find what I need fairly quickly. as a side note, its fun to pull out receipts and see what stuff cost way back when. I still have all my pay-stubs too. . weird, huh?
