Started no problem this morning with no plug-in. Plain Shell #2 in the tank. I let it idle for 5 minutes and the high idle never kicked itself off but the white smoke eventually went away.



My buddy in Arkansas has to plug his old Powerjoke in if it falls below 40*.



I love my Cummins! Oo.

Same here but at -6*F. The only thing that concerns me with this truck (Dads truck) is that it made a ticking noise till it warmed up. I don't know if this is normal or not because I don't drive it all that often...

Readers' Rigs

Check out my 2003 Ram Album in Readers' Rigs for a couple snow pics. One didn't upload worth a darn, sorry it's screwed up. Have about 16-18" on the ground now and 12 degrees so far this AM at 10:00. Most snow I've seen here since '86, normally get anywhere from no snow to maybe 4" deep on a "normal" winter.

A friend of mine has an 03 and he was complaining of black smoke when it was -20. I seen one report of black smoke anyone else. The dealer told him to run stanadyne.

He is also having a hell of a time keeping the cab warm. He has a winter front but says he has to wear a heavy jacket. Its his first dodge and I dont think he is impressed.

He also has a pretty good vibration going down the highway. Dealer hasnt been able to fix. He has threatened to lemon law them unless they can fix the vibration.

MOPAR has released the "Cold Weather Kit" for the 2003-2004 diesel engine equipped trucks (part # 82208721). The kit has electric battery blankets and a replacement electric harness that will power both blankets and the block heater. There is a cover that fits inside the engine compartment and covers the front of the radiator area, there are four flaps that can be opened to allow air to flow thru to the radiator etc.

Vaughn I know what you mean about the truck feeling like a block of ice, Last month we had some -30 F It is hard to believe it is so Cold down your way, This last 2 weeks the temps have been in the +40 F.

I notice when it is that cold that the white cloud follows me for a while. I see the unburnt fuel splatters on the snow below the tailpipe. When I drive down the road a while the clutch gets harder and harder to push in.

If your ever up this way look me up. Hopefully it will be in warm weather.

I was in Grande Prairie a couple of weeks ago when it hit -45. Came out of my hotel room to dicover someone knocked out my block heater cord. Started in about the same time as -5

Yeah Scott -19F is pretty unheard of around here. It's warmed up to around 60 some days so it's nice now. Boy we had a winter though, I hope we will not repeat it for a LONG time! Had me second-guessing my decision to not get a 4x4! We had over a foot of snow for several weeks here which is quite unusual too.



A more typical winter:

Normal snowfall: Maybe 1-3" if we get any at all

Temps: Overnight lows down to 0 once in a great while, last time was 1996. Average high at dead of winter is +40F
