i got my 96 3500 5 speed 215 motor'd truck from apparently a goober who was swapping parts trying to figure out a running problem, that i tracked to a gutted overflow valve and afc missing a screw or two, he swapped the injection pump (thank god he put a correct 215 pump on it and not something smaller, i checked the #887) lift pump and who knows what else to no avail, i have a good idea that he put injectors from a 95 3500 automatic on it, if this is true how much is this screwing me? i have it running pretty decent but i have absolutely no smoke with the wheel backed all of the way off and housing forward, plate's in the middle. i saw somewhere that a 95 auto is like 160hp

Pull an injector and its best to have a pump shop disassy it and id the part no on the injector tip (hidden until disassy).

If you do it yourself a pan of clean diesel soft vise jaws and a spotless work area (you'll need a deep 15mm socket to disassy the injector tip from the body).

If it has the correct injector tips heres the part num. we are looking for is: bosch # 0 432 133 844.

Good luck

heres the only #s i could find on it, no normal 10 digit bosch numbers like you listed anywhere, on the tip DSLA145P462 and a little to the side 561 with a 060 in a circle, on the upper part KDAL59P6562, 939 in a circle with 6817 just below the threads on top

I posted some mis-information. . the 0 432 133 844 is the Bosch number for the injector assy, not the nozzle or "tip" number.

I disassy a couple of core injectors for you this afternoon.

The number off of some 160 injectors retipped with 215 nozzle's showed the following nozzle number: DSLA 145 P 477 ( I will call the vendor tomorrow to verify that these are the 215 nozzle numbers).

Some 175 HP injectors that were disassy showed: DSLA 145 P 464

If the last four numbers are indicative of a incrementally larger orifice. . then you may have 160 hp injectors as you suspect. . your DSLA 145 P 462.

To double ck. our work you might also call a Bosch shop with the data you posted and see what they can tell you about your nozzle number.

Good luck

thanks for checking, i figured that they were 160s because i saw that he had just bought a set of 160s on ebay (in his feedback profile) while playing musical parts, it's running better but i think it's a little down on power, i gained 1 mpg with the of valve and killing the afc leaks yesterday i figured 15. 2 up from 14. 3 first tank, it's better then that because this tank was all intown with my lead foot and the last tank was 150 miles hwy and 100 city before i filled up early (dead fuel gauge). anybody have some 215s left from a upgrade for sale? i wouldn't be opposed to some used mild performance units but i don't really have cash for serious bombs yet, gauges, bhaf and a 4" exhaust in about that order are in the plans

Dixon:

The guy I spoke with at Bosch today, claims the DSLA 145 P 477 is the correct nozzle for the 2175, 2023 (215 hp trucks CPL).

He did mention that 11 different tip numbers were available for this injector body, the change rating based on CPL. He was in a hurry, and wasn't sure if the the last three numbers being greater = more or less fuel (ie the 477 vs your 462).

At the very least, unless a part num supercession has occurred it sounds like you might have the lesser injector.

Its not as expensive as you might think to have them retipped, shimmed and pop tested. You might jump right past and go for the 370's.

Good luck

Andy

o-tay, thanks for checking it out, if i am that close i may ignore it till i get a little ahead and find some performance units, by then ill have the needed gauges and exhaust
