I just got done breaking in the camshaft:D I let her goes through 4 complete thermostat opening after that & now I'm lettting her cool so I can retorque the head gasket:D

SOme of my first impression are...

It is way smooth = the balancing of the crank, rods, and piston has made a super smooth motor!!!

The engine is alot queiter? I don't know if this is the coated pistons or the total seal rings.

Rip's 5" sounds great at just 1500 RPMs you can hear turbo spooling:D

I'll post pics either tonight or in the AM of the completed project...

Quieter?

Hey, Drawson, Isn't it a great feeling to hear it fire up and run after all the work?? That was always the best part of a rebuild job, to hear it come alive again!!

Your new engine should be quieter with the windage tray / main bearing girdle or whatever you want to call it installed between the block and the oil pan.

Cummins puts this girdle on the '03 and up engines to stop the outer gasket lip/lower perimeter of the block from resonating and ringing like a bell with each cylinder firing. The girdle reduces the radiated noise from the oil pan and engine block. It really works!

I wish I could find an excuse to put one on my '01. It would be interesting to do a before and after Db reading to find out just how effective it is.

Of course the 'other' benefit is that it stiffens the block and makes it more stable with all the added horsepower. :)

Congrats. Greg L. The Noise Nazi

SWEET!!! I'm hearing what I want to hear, that doing a balance job on the rotating assembly pays considerable dividends. Not only will you enjoy the smooth operation but improved bearing life. . . as if you needed it ;)

Congrats on a job well done Dee :D

Hope you make it to Bullydog's event in June, I plan to be there and am looking forward to seeing you & your rig again.

I got my outside electric fans back on today, installed a crankscase breather filter, and evac and recharged the A/C system.

I picked up alonger boost line so I can hook the big turbo up to the old gauge and use the old line to hook up the 100 PSI boost gauge tomorrow.

I ran w/o the valet switch today for the first time and even with the pressure release valves set at 50 it hit 55 psi fast and only at 3/4 throttle. It is fast kind of scared me:--) She's got 215 miles on her so far

Here are some I've noticed...

1) boost starts right where it did with just the PDR HX-40 and climbs fast than any turbo I have had to date:eek:

2) the intake temps is at least 40 deg cooler in all spectrums

3) The clutch is a little grabby but getting smoother every shift

4) the turbo noise out of the tail pipe is SWEEEEETOo.

Nowel had tried for couple of years to get me to go with Twins and now that I've got it done he's not here to see it. Hopefully he is looking down on me with a big smile... .
