New set-up questions

Arggg. 299 code and limp mode

I just finished working on the truck today and finally have it running. I am having a couple of problems though. One is my oil pressure will jump right up to 45-50 range, then after running for exactly 30seconds, the gauge will drop to 0. It does this like clock work every time. I have a new oil pump, fresh oil, so I think it is a valve or something that is malfunctioning. Any ideas??

Secondly, when I put my foot down on the pedal, the engine will only rev to about 1600rpms right now. It is acting like it has no fuel, I don't even know where to start here

PLEASE HELP!!

With the oil pressure reading low, the engine is probably going into the "limp home" mode. That's why it won't rev. Have you checked the oil pressure with a manual gauge?

Seems like there is a pressure relief valve in the oil system. I don't have a book on the third gen yet, but I'm sure the second gens had it.

It could be limp mode, but it does it when the oil pressure is at 45-50 as well. There is an oil pressure relief valve, and it is right above the filter somewhere. I'll check here. Any other ideas anyone?

The 30 seconds could be a timer. The oil pressure gauge is a fake and might jump up to that level automatically at start-up as part of its programming then it drops to its "real" value after 30 seconds. First thing I'd check is that the "gauge" wire is actually connected to the sending unit.

I wouldn't run it without the in-dash oil pressure gauge reading something other than zero or before checking it with a mechanical gauge if the in-dash gauge continues to read zero. Since it apparently isn't making a lot of noise I assume it actually has oil pressure but I'd be on the safe side, nonetheless.

It's probably in "limp-home" mode, as mentioned above. It's likely the ECM sees no oil pressure (even though the fake gauge says 45-50 for the first 30 seconds) and is trying to save your wallet from spewing lots of cash.
