Guys, I just shut my Cummins off for the first time in 27 Hours!!!
I got laid off Friday and dont have to go back til next Monday, so Saturday I just up and decided I would go to Gatesville Texas (from western maryland)to meet another young punk like me with a Cummins that I talk on the Yahoo messenger every night with but never met each other so what the heck? He has a nice '91 250LE 4X4. but, anyway, this was a 25 hour drive! I stopped on the way down and slept for a couple hours. On the way back, I ran 'er straight up only stopping for fuel (which I just left it run) I ran the guts out of 'er up and back and didn't have a single glitch! I am proud of my baby. These trucks are just amazing, and I now have 130,000 miles on it.

On this trip I also had the pleasure of meeting another TDR member "deezul1". The three of us got together to meet each other and tinkered with our trucks and ripped on them a bit. I had a blast!

by the way, John, you have a nice truck and you rip on 'er pretty good for an old guy! just kidding. Thanks for letting us use the garage and tools.
next time, you guys come up here to Maryland!

I don't know how I made it either John, a lot of sodas and cigarettes I geuss. I had a blast too. Hope your nieghbors dont hate you too much now. There is probably still a cloud of black smoke above Waco. Dont worry, I will be back some day to play, I will have to see your new rig when you get it. You guys are always welcome up here if you feel like driving!

I'm with ya. Just drove from VT to GA non-stop to move the step daughter down to college. Truck stayed running while filling with fuel. I am jealous of you southern states people. Much better fuel then VT, better price to at this time. My 92 run like a top the whole way down and back. Way back stopped in Myrtle Beach & Altantic City (only too lose money). Did all of this in 4 days. Averaged about 17 mpg on the highway which I am not complaining about. The harder you work these Cummins, the better they go. Turned 120,000 on the way.

I have many times driven from Seattle, Washington to Boulder, Colorado in a day and a half. But I have never left the motor running when fueling up. Do most of you do this?

It’s a keeper.

I figure runnin 'er hard like that, then right off the interstate, by the time I let it sit and idle to cool down I could already get a tank in. So I just let 'er run.

My friends still can't believe I drove the whole way to Texas just to meet a fellow 1st gener.

Dale, I at times have not shut down my rig for 4 days at times. I run 10 hrs a day, Sleep 8 another 10 hrs of solid running. I have an air operated high idle switch. When I idle for extended times I use the high Idle. Fueling with motor running is no problem. Just extended idleing for hrs at a time. Sure it burns the fuel, but I'd rather sleep with the AC on than save fuel. #ad
