:mad: Well, looks like the problem is definately mechanical. Got home, checked injection lines, cracked each one loose, no change in knock. Drove down the road and back. Knock is worse. Oil pressure still at the 1/2 way mark on the gauge. But you can feel it in the floor. And the steering wheel. And the shifter. And if you push in the clutch, and rev it up a little, you can feel it in the clutch pedal.
Bad mistake letting family lend me the money to buy this thing. I still owe them $1400. I don't have the tools to fix this - just a cheezy hoist and engine stand that would barely hold an Oldsmobile V-6 diesel. I cannot afford to buy a hoist, new engine stand, and whatever else is necessary, not to mention a new crank and bearings.
I'm asking for your suggestions here - should I sell it as-is, put it up for auction, part it out? This is the worst. It took 12 years to finally get one of these, and now it has to end so soon. :{

I don't think it is a rod if you can hear and feel it in the clutch pedal. I have 50 000 dolers in tools bring that thing to my house so we can fix it. I have a hoist that would lift the engine but I don't think that is nessary . When the clutch pressure plate let loose they can make a racket. I sent you a pm earler call me the # is in the pm. Ill be awake awile

Dont get too discouraged just yet; there are an awful lot of great guys willing to help any way they can. How far are you from Mreidian? I have a friend I havent seen in 10 years I need to visit that lives in that area; I may be able to stop by if I can schedule a visit down that way. Hafta get time off work and all... . :rolleyes:

If it were intercooled, I'd suggest sending me the head so I can do some experimentation and analysis, but you are nonIC, same as I am, so you have nothing I really need, unless it's a set of 3. 54 gears or newer pump ;) :D. I'd drop the transmission at the very least, and check that out. It sounds like driveline/drivetrain to me, but you never can tell over the internet. If it is under 500K, has never been blown up due to overheating or high EGT, I wouldnt think it's rebuild time just yet. These engines are hard on drivetrain, though, esp the older ones.

Meridian is near Lansing, I think. I'm actually pretty close to Toledo, OH.

As far as the truck goes, I was paranoid about the noise, but it is not a problem, and I shouldn't be worried about it. After all, it has over 230,000 miles on it (according to the PO, the odometer stopped around 190,000). Now I feel like an idiot making such a big deal about 'normal' engine noises...

NOW who feels like an idiot?

AARRRGGGHHHH. I looked at your location, and thought Mississippi, not Michigan. Looks like someone needs to go back to grade school and relearn his state abbreviations. :rolleyes:
