94 Brand F Engine

I just got back from the owners house of this beautiful 1954 Mercedes 300b cabriolet. He has owned the car for 30 years and was finally able to recently pull it out and restore it. I was contacted by him from a referral to rebuild the two, progressive two barrel SOLEX carbs. The carbs took alot of time and patience to rebuild and repair them. I had to repair an air correction jet tower that had been broken years ago. NO SPARE CARB parts available other than rebuild kits! I am primarily diesels now but this took me back to my old VW and PORSCHE days. It took a time to install and set up but when we drove her, she PURRED! He let me take the wheel... 4spd on the tree! Reminded me of my old '67 200D only the 3000b has some power! I thought the car might be worth $30,000..... It was appraised at $110,000.

I hope this thread doesn't get moved.

Nice looking old Benz !

I once had a friend that made his living working on and restoring Euro cars. There was a 68 300 SL in the shop for total restoration. The drive train and body was finished and only the interior was left to do. What I remember most was how smooth the inline 6 ran. You could stand a nickel on the engine. I was so impressed later that year I found an old 73 300 beater 4-door. I bought the car for $175. It ran perfect after I replaced the coil and plug wires. The inline 6 along with the factory 4 bbl would smoke some tires. I sold it to a used car dealer for $500. I knew I was about to destroy my perfect driving record.
