Thumbing its nose at the Obama Admin's view that felt economy regulations should be dictated by the federal government, not the states, the California Air Resources Board recently adopted a law requiring new vehicles sold with in its borders be equipped with windows that reflect heat-producing rays from the sun...

Next on the agenda are rules calling for low-rolling resistance tires and standards for lower viscosity motor oil... ...

So its official: CARB now is designing our vehicles. Because California buys more vehicles than nay other state, the rest of the US may have to accept these design specifications.....

Unquote... .

Reprinted from August 09 Wards Auto World... a publication we get baed on vehicle manufacturing... .

They also want to ban black for a color of a vehicle. :-laf

That's just racist!

If the manufacturers would stop selling in California, they could continue to sell in the rest of the country and we wouldn't have all those CARB crap emission items on the vehicles. Boycott the CA foolishness!

thats how i feel about the big rigs being required to retrofit particulate filters on older trucks hauling in california. i say quit hauling freight in cali and they will change thier laws.

DPF's ? What about complete newer engines !!??#@$%!

yes, this sucks...

But not as much as dirty, polluted air. I admit, I do not like emissions controls on my vehicles, but I leave them on for the same reason I recycle - those who come after me.

With 7 billion people on the planet, my opinion is we all need to do our share to pass something half decent on to the next generation - even if it robs my power and mpg... .

Just my $. 02

I agree with this to a point. What I don't get is how using more fuel to go the same distance because your mileage is down due to DPF, Cats, etc. is actually helping. I guess the gov gets more fuel tax, so I can see where they'd like that. :-laf

clean air

hey

i went from a gas truck that got 9-12 empty to my 08 bluetec diesel that gets 18-22 empty. the tail pipe has no smoke.

i would of got around 26 mpg without the exhaust filter and egr.

i'm putting a turbo on my '83' ranger to clean up the air.

and running bio-diesel whenever i can.

but if i had to replace the motor and install all of the current new truck requirements, just to drive in california, i would just avoid driving in california.

az, nev, ore would get my motel, food and fuel money.

the mountain air is cleaner anyway.

as for diesels, i would rather buy bio-diesel than have all of the extra garbage on the engines. with the result of even lower emissions.

a diesel electric would be the ideal setup.

Sorry. I don't buy any of this garbage about cars being a problem for the environment after reading the latest Scientific American.

Bovine (cattle) gas creates nearly TWICE as many noxious and carbon-specific compounds in America as automobiles.

Why don't we put a DPF in all the cattle's ***** then?

I'd gladly pay twice as much for a steak and half as much for fuel!

That's just racist!

Are you kidding me. ?. ? Carb is proposing no black color vehicles in the near future (if they get their way). You need to take a reality check w/ your statement!

You need to do a check and realize that Clinton/Gore (and thier EPA special interest groups) passed the new emission law bill ( starting 2007 emissions) that are now in effect right before they left the office.

Being in CA and owning a black suburban, I would not care if they did that. It takes too damn long to cool that car off in 100 degree heat.

Sorry to offend you. It was meant as a joke regarding banning black vehicles. Reality checks go both ways!;)

no more black cars or roofs

yes cali is requiring that no more new black vehicles be sold in the state. next will be all dark colors. including used vehicles.

the same bill also requires all new homes be built with a white roof, along with all replacement roofs.

I've read about painting the roads white.

Can you imagine white roads????

The glare would be enormous!

Amen to that.

What many people don't realize is that the EPA is about to pass a "perfect storm" of legislation to which we will all be subject (in one way or another). This includes the declaration of CO2 as a hazardous substance (like lead or mercury), the requirement for everyone who produces more than 25000 tons/year of "Greenhouse Gasses" to report those emissions, and the requirement to retrofit or remove from service all older commercial engines that don't meet modern standards.

This is being done more-or-less under the nose of the public. Joe Blow won't have to report his GHG emissions, and won't have to re-power his vehicles. For now.

Just wait until the EPA man comes knocking and makes all pre-2009 vehicles, lawn equipment, and stationary power systems illegal to own or operate unless retrofitted.

Imagine the cost to the individual to replace every engine-powered item he owns.

Then look up the total quantity of CO2 released by breathing. How long before someone at the EPA draws the inevitable conclusion and we're only allowed to breathe on Tuesday afternoons?

The "ban California" move is tempting but they do grow an awful lot of our food there. I'm also guessing the car companies have thought about doing that but I've heard CA is the biggest car market in the country. I guess it would be like cutting off your nose to spite your face. It's too bad such a small part of the country gets to decide so much for the rest of us.

Such hypocrisy!

Its all bull#^%$. Such concern by my state for the welfare of the air for everyone, yet not EVERY vehicle in California has to pass smog check to get their registration. Go look here and see that only 34 out of 58 counties require smog inspection even though everyone from a non-inspecting county is free to drive anywhere they want anyway. Ludicrous. If they REALLY wanted to enforce it fairly... than include EVERYONE!

california has cut back on the amount of food they produce. thousands of acres are just sitting dry. due to the water being shipped to the city(s).

more and more of our food is being imported, just like oil.

while millions of barrels of oil could be pumped from the four corners area and the upper states along with both east and west shores.

thousands of acres are being let go fallow across the u. s. so we can import more food.

it's all politics and big money.....
