DC zone rep

Not to throw a damper on your party but have you guys given any consideration to the idea that perhaps a DC zone rep might might feel inclined to join your little shindig? He might not feel he has to wear his DC uniform (so you won't know who he is) and he might just carry a notepad with him too.

It took me...

about 30,000 mi. to decide "I am my own warantee station" .

I for one am not too worried about a "wolf" in sheeps clothing. I may live to regret that statement. I think I have a more reliable truck now than what DC sold me.

jlccc,

Considering this is being held at a Dodge dealership, and they will have add-on performance products for sale, I'd guess they're kinda in it with us. I would say there will be several "wolves" out there eye-ballin' our trucks ;)

-Jay

My poor old Ram is over 100,000 miles, over 5 years old, but all stock, of course. Wouldn't want to upset DC

All the parts were in stock when I used them.

Just two short days now until the big event. We've had a couple of really exciting developments in the last couple of days that should add to the experience.

First, Peterson's is opening up 3 service bays for projects. Unfortunately, no hoist will be available, but there will be a place to plug in welders, etc.

A representative from Bullydog will be there also with information on their products and several items at discount prices.

We look forward to having a great turnout and we've got plenty of room for everyone, bring your projects or just come out and join in the discussions. Peterson's will also have some "bomb" demos there for everyone to take a look at. We've had several local people and businesses handing out flyers and there's been a tremendous response from TDR and non-TDR members.

finnally got a hold of the correct guy in charge at firebird raceway. cant use the track the eve of the event. have to plan way far in advance with a schedule that suits them.

however,,,,,, i know a good place. a paved road with very little traffic. it gets used for testing purposes by myself and others.

unless someone else has a good suggestion for a place to race. i know of no other track in the area. now if petersons would let us race down their access road,,,,,,,,,,,,Oo.

Dyno available

I spoke with the owner of Meridan MotorSports this afternoon who has a DynoJet dyno. It is available to us Saturday. He is only about 15 minutes drive down the freeway from Stampede Dodge. He charges by the hour: $85/hr. He says he can set up a truck for HP and torque measuring and do 3 runs in an hour. If we get a group of people interested (at least 8), he'll drop the price to around $65/hr and dedicate the dyno and the day to us. If there are more than 8, we may get even a better break. He'll also be better prepared and get trucks in and out in more like a half hour or so.

We'll just have to see how it goes. Maybe a "before" run in the morning, do some mods, then an "after" run in the afternoon.

Attendees, please step up!

Dyno Runs

I'd be interested in one. I dont have my SBC con Fe in yet but it woud be interested to see what it does slipping. It seems to hold on Level 1 but after that it gets into iffy territory.

Nathan

Nathan,

Thought of you while talking to Doug at Meridan Motorsports. He said he dyno'd a local Dodge last week. Came in at 490 HP! Knowing your ambitions from your posts, thought it might have been you, but he said it didn't have a scooped hood (Air Bulldog) and as I remember, you do.

Hope whoever it is shows up Saturday.

-Jay

Jay,

I dont think I'm up to that level yet but when I deciede which way to go on my fuel system those monster injectors will follow right along. I ran my truck, comp on 3-3, with my G-Tech dyno and it read 352hp with the clutch slipping bad. I guessed the weight to be 7400lbs. I haven't weighed it yet but I weighed my 99 once, it weighed 7500 with one person, tool box, and a light ladder rack. I'm guessing it would be hard to dyno over 400hp with the factory clutch even if I was way over that.

By the way, if anyone want to install a clutch on saturday I have one burning a hole in my living room floor. I would need to know by tomorrow though so I can line up a transmission jack.

Well, at 179K miles (by the time I get to Nampa, it'll be close), I hope he does stop by, so I can whine and moan and perhaps talk him into the ground :)

Seriously, I doubt any official folks would be there. Work, on a weekend? Cows might jump over the moon, but that? nawww.. . hehehehe

this is great news jayOo. :D im sure it'd be no prob getting 8 folks interested in doing a dyno

490HP... I'll be there.

FYI, that 490 was corrected, it was around 445 uncorrected, ofcourse I had him print off the corrected sheet for me :) Doug's a good guy down there at Meridian Motorsports. But I can't have Nathan showing up and blowing me away!! :D As I recall you have pretty much the same toys as I do Nathan? Anyway, should be fun to meet you guys.

Nathan, we need to get your clutch in so you can get that thing dyno'd... I'd be willing to help, just not so sure about Saturday. Maybe with a couple guys, would be faster... talk the Dodge place in to letting go of a lift... ??

So what time is everyone showing up?

--Sam

I already have a lift

:D Sam,

My truck is already lifted with 35" tires so if nothing else there is some room under it. It's a 5spd also so the transmission is a lot lighter then the 5600's. I guess I can always bring my work truck down and dyno it:D . I got the lift pump replaced in it recently so now it makes smoke again. See you guys tomorrow.

Nathan

I know what you're sayin Nathan... :D I had a '97 1500 with a 6" lift and 36" swampers. . you could sit up under that thing comfortably... too bad it couldn't pull it's own weight around (got that problem fixed with my blue dog :D ).

Only reason I would hesitate if I were you about the transmission thing is that I did the transmission work myself on this truck and you can burn some time wrestling the heavy stuff around. But if you're game I'll throw the 'work clothes' in the truck... It'd be great to get to dyno it afterwards :)

It was pretty funny down at Meridian Motorsports when I went down there, Doug evidently didn't believe me that I was shooting for 400HP, or when I told him it'd smoke a little ;) He seemed to be surprised to see this out of a diesel. Would be a blast to see you go down there and do the same... and he owes me a graph with a torque reading on it too. Let me know if you'd consider it on Saturday, I'll bring what I've got for tools and floor jack if interested.

Sam,

I'm up for it. I guess I better rent a transmission jack. I have the 13" flywheel already so we wouldn't have to wait to have one turned. Did you wrestle the transmission and transfer case out without a spreader or do I need one of those as well? I have never done a clutch in such a big truck before but I have done several little trucks. I can't imagine it taking more than 4-5 hours with the flywheel in hand and several hands to help. Thanks for the offer to help too.

Nathan

If it costs very much to rent a transmission jack; personally I'd run to Harbor Freight and buy one of their transmission jack coverter things for a floor jack for $50. They just stick on the end of the floor jack. Or you could save all of the above and balance it on a regual floor jack (what I end up doing).

The worst part about the whole thing on my truck was the stinkin cross member. I was able to hammer it up out of the V shape and then hammer it back. I guess a bottle jack and a 2 X 4 or something might help, or a porta-power hydraulic thing... but it is possible to do without. Your call I guess. It did take some time and hammering though without anything to spread it.

Let me know if there is anything in particular you might need that I might have... floor jack for example... (unless there will be some there already and available?)

transmission Jack

Sam,

United rental has a transmission jack for 22. 00/day. I just have to have it back by 4pm. How long does Doug stay open until? I think I will bring all my sockets, wrenches, air guns, air compressor, etc. The only things I dont have are an alignment tool for the clutch, long socket extensions, and a swivel socket. If you can think of any other important tools I might need let me know.

Nathan

I'm pretty sure I've still got a "universal" clutch alignment tool in the garage that I'll bring for ya.

When I was down there, officially I think he's open till 5:00pm. But I thought it was a bit later when I got out of there because they had some people in there working on stuff and weren't done yet. I think if you give him a call you could probably sneak in around 4:00... 887-2058 Oh, and I don't know what the rest of these guys have arranged with him, but I had been trying to get in to dyno my truck for quite a while and finally had to make an appointment... he seems to be pretty busy.
