New Diesel Catalytic Converter!

I went to the ford site following that 6. 0 thread. I was interested in the truck. Ive been waiting for a good 5 speed auto with a strong motor. Im not brand loyal never have been. If you saw my collection of snowmachines and motorcycles youd understand. In my life I owned 4 ford 1-6 jobbies. All but one was awesome. The one that bummed me out was a 96 brand new 4x4. Had a few problems with it nothing major but was disapointed with the downtime on a brand new vehicle.

All that said. I was over there and noticed disinformation and thought who better than me to straighten out the discrepencies. I did absolutely no ford slamming whatsoever. I didnt even say anything about the failure rates of the 6. 0. No jabbing if you understand. Next thing I know the "whats your vin # do you have any proof" type moderater is breathing down my neck. I sent him a lengthypost about my stand and that I disagreed with him. All polite. Next I post a topic asking the other folks if im being disruptive and I explained why I was there. Whammo got booted. I laughed so hard. It summed up my opinion of the moderator. I wish I could go back on there to get him to post my pm but Its not worth my time.

He topped it off by sending me an email calling me a curmudgeon and a troll. It had me rolling. Its so funny because I had no ill intentions. And there were some actual curmudgeons and trolls over there. You win some you lose some. But he who laughs last laughs the hardest.

One more thing. Before I got locked out permanently. I was peruseing through a 5 pager about longevity of fords. Who on the site has the ford with the most miles. On and on about how they had 400k 3rd rebuild. One guy had a 450k 530cu caddy, original motor. I guess I was the only one who noticed. Only one reference to PSDs. And it was a guy who worked for a junk yard. Chew on that. I expected to see at least one 300k plus psd owner. My papa has one and its already looking like its not gonna make 200. While my tweaked out I-6 is chugging along hes gonna be in the market for a new one. Hes not one of those blind loyalists though. He knows when hes been a sheep to the sheering. One thing about the truck It is in darn good shape for its age and use. Its cost him a bit to maintain. But the darn thing drives on the Ice like a subaru. Its uncanny. I have no explanation.

I was talking to a lady down the street in about 99. It stuck in my mind the absurdity. She had a brand new psd. Very nice truck. I myself had always wanted one. She says yeah its on it 4th transmission and the warranty is almost up. I said watcha gonna do. She says sell it to some unsespecting soul and get another one just like it. The mental picture I had was of a horse with blinders. LISTEN LADY MAYBE YOU OUGHT TO TRY SOMTHIN ELSE.

I went thru almost the identical scenario over on the GM board - THEY are so paranoid, they make the Ford bunch look GREAT by comparison! Like you, I've owned just about every major brand over the years - and until my '91 Dodge and now the '02, you couldn't RUN fast enough to get me into a Chrysler product - but the Cummins won me over - and the rest of the trucks have been absolutely flawless...

I still think a person would, on average, be quite happy with any of the "big 3" diesel trucks if they were completely open minded - it's mainly the few isolated smaller details that sway us from one brand to another - sometimes price - but to mindlessly bash other brands due to blind predjudice - or ban any who dare offer a challenging viewpoint is juvenile and reveals serious insecurity problems...

"or ban any who dare offer a challenging viewpoint is juvenile and reveals serious insecurity problems"

My sentiments exactly. I get bashed every other day(almost exclusively by ford owners). It doesnt bother me at all. I am happy with my choice of engine.

Just curious if you are the same Big Daddy T that replied to this post with a reply of "IHow many dodges do you see with over 400k. Ive seen a few over 500 on original engine but I bet the owners had to baby it to limp the old dog out that far. "

It was a reference to the truck not the engine. I misspoke. Mis wrote more like. I doubt many normal use pu's could pull 500k. Normal as in everyday stop and go start and turn off. We see by the hotshots that the engine is durable as hell. Most are on their 4th or 5th transmission by the time they hit 1 million. I think that is actually quite normal regardless of brand.

If the average person drives 15k a year. We should know in about 28 more years what condition the truck will be in at 500k. For the average person. I am able to get more miles outa my motors than most. My vehicle is driven between 150-200 miles a day. Because the motor doesnt see complete cool down it wears at a slower rate. Startup is the killer. They dont wear hardly at all when they are warm.

I read a book once. I know you have to be taken aback but its true. Here is what i gleamed. There are three wear periods for a vehicle. The first and the last are the most rapid. You have break in. then comes the great middle land that we all hope lasts forever. Then there is failure. What our intention is that we should stay in the middle of the 3 for as long as humanly possible. Changing the oil helps. Basically all the Preventitive maintanence that you can afford. Money and time wise. Driving kindly is a factor. Pluging it in is benificial. Dont let the kids drive it. You know the common sense stuff. One tip I got from the book that I love . After 500 miles change every fluid in the vehicle. To remove all the initial break-in wear particles. Permantly removing them from circulation. Next install magnets wherever prudent to collect future debris. I have had magnets on my vehicle with great luck for years.

I have only had one transmission failure in my entire life. I am young but I quit documenting miles at 600k. All my own vehicles. Thats about as far as the average american will drive in an entire lifetime. In this time I have had two engine failures due to my own incompetence(no idiot light on either vehicle). 35 below froze the motors. Ran em til the headgaskets blew. Lovely alaskan weather for driving.

I am not flaming the post, but why lie? You say you were kicked off the site, but you are still posting over there.

Watcha mean mills? I post on the deiselstop. but not on the ford truck. Got kicked off the ford truck enthusiast site. I have all the emails if you like.

Im not much of a liar. A little too honest most the time. Kinda guy thatll give back the money if im given too much change. Kinda guy to turn in a purse or a wallet. I figure it comes back in karma.
