CAT 3126 Replacement & Emissions

Lincoln Welder with Continental Diesel

I have searched the forums, and I have looked through the TDR magazines that I could find. And, I still cannot find the issue with the indepth article about brake fluids. Can anyone point me in the right direction? TIA

I found several articles using webcrawler.com

Just type in brake*fluid*contamination*

That should give you all kinds of info.

I have been studying brakes and brake fluid for some time now. Contaminated brake fluid can be very dangerous, in a panic stop. Brake fluid is hydroscopic which means it draws moisture from every where. Any thing at 3% moisture and over, lowers your boiling point of the fluid. That converts to steam in hot brakes which means you do not have bad brakes, you got

:-{} NO BRAKES. :-{} .

I have an 04 dually, it has 10,000 miles on it. Purchased a brake fluid moisture tester the other day to test my fluid. It tested at over 3%. #@$%! I was shocked. It was also very dirty and dark looking. When I had it flushed, the front bleeders, when opened and removed, the fluid would not even flow using gravity. They were plugged and had to be forced out using other means.

When was the last your mechanic talked to you about brake fluid? Likely never. Not a whole lot of $$$$ in brake fluid flushes.

What you don't know about your brakes could hurt you.

Be safe people.

oh btw mbhw welcome to the TDR you helped me already

Thanks fellas for the replies. I was reading one of the other threads the other day, and another fella did not see what the advantage was to haveing the brakes blead. I wanted to point out that article, but could not find it. Hope maybe he'll tune in here.

Brake Fluid Quality?

Mbhw,

Did your Brake fluid study reveal any high quality fluids that ar OK to use in the 3rd Gen. trucks?

I just ordered a Motive Prod. brake fluid bleeder pump with adapters. I want to bleed the systems in both my Dodges but, haven't decided on what fluid to use.

Valvoline has a synthetic fluid that meets DOT 3 & 4 specs. & the boiling points are higher than the regular DOT 3 fluids.

Any suggestions from you or others would be helpful.

Thanks.

Joe, if you have the TDR mag. issue 43, the article explains it better than I could. When I read it the first time, it was a real eye opener for me. I had never ever given brake fluid a thought before that article.
