Just exactly how much mechanical aptitude do you have?

going to put some lorenz leveling coils, bilstein 5100s, and 03 track bar conversion in my father's completely stock 2000 4x4 in Arizona. i won't have access to the lift and very well equipped shop i use here in san diego and will have to purchase some jack stands.....

i've never used jack stands to drop the front axle.

i see a lot of 12 ton stands with approx 30 inch max height on line, which for me means about 27 inches as i don't like the way jack stands feel at max height.

for those who know for sure... ...

will 27 inches get this truck high enough off the deck to replace coils??

i'm thinking an easy "yes" but once again i need TDR reassurance.

what would be very reassuring is if one of you who has done your own suspension would go to the garage and measure your stands.

thanks for your knowledge/experience guys, jeff

i have swapped my coils out a couple of times and 27" will do it. i have mine sitting at 25" to the bottom of the frame behind the lower control arm mounts, at the frame. i am installing a truss so i can run with the big boys.

I did mine about 3 weeks ago. I only have the standard jack stands which worked fine. I didn't lift the tires very far off the floor. Once you take the wheels off there is lots of room to drop the front diff.

thanks guys... .

i failed to considerhow much room i'd have to play with after tires are off. of course there'll be room.

much appreciated, jeff

I used the orange, Central Machinery 6-Ton floor jacks from Harbor Freight. The box says that it will hold a car or truck over 2 feet off the ground.

I installed a Lorenz Bilstein 5100 Suspension System on my '03 & placed the jack stands behind the lower control arms. Worked great & they weren't maxxed-out.

Used two floor jacks to raise & lower the axles with smaller jack stands to support the axles.
