truck camper and car trailer

Just a quick question

My new Lance Camper booklet says to have a jack strong enough to lift truck and camper. Assuming the stock jack is not up to this task what do you use/ recommend. I have a highlift with me most of the time but a liftpoints are not as easy on the truck compared to a CJ7. Large bottle jacks are about the only other jack that comes to mind. :confused:

Why assume the stock jack won't do the job? I've used them before to jack up fully loaded trucks, and some pretty hefty trailers, too.

I carry a bottle jack, too, but it's just a convenience thing for me.

If your camper hangs below the rear bumper, have you given any thought as to how you are going to get your spare down?

MDM, No camper is an 8ft 6" model so it does not hang below bumper. That is an awful good point though about the spare. I did not think about that!

On a second gen you cant let the spare down with the tail gate down :-{} Real handy when you have 2000lbs of 10' long angle iron in the bed :{

The jack has worked fine for me with the camper loaded, just over 10,000 lbs gross

I carry a 6 ton bottle jack because it's much smaller and lighter then a 20 ton. With my 11'-3" camper on the truck, the most one rear wheel can weigh is 3700 lbs or 1. 85 tons.

As far as lowering the spare, I've used a 3/8" or a 1/2 " ratchet and extensions. I can't remember which, but I going to check it out today.

We have a 96 Dodge with a liftgate at work. We just turned the spare tire hoist and put the "drive shaft" through a hole in the frame pointing out the right side wheel well. Works like a charm. Just an option for people with large by huge campers.

I had to use the stock truck jack on my previous truck with a large Lance camper installed to change a rear tire. It was no problem. Stock jack is pretty tough!

Ok. Thanks for the great answers. I will rely on the stock jack for now. Like I said i usaully have a high lift and I am going to carry a bottle jack too as a back up.

My very first flat on my '95 right front, the stock jack broke. I have relied on a bottle jack ever since. The other thing that broke soon after was the stock lug nut wrench. I now carry a impact socket and a !/2" drive breaker bar.
