It is probably cheaper if you just use a two speed rear end switch, which you can get at a truck parts store.

Just to give you an idea,

The Cummins switch (current part number is 4920060) will set you back about $140. 00 or so.

Mike. :)

You mean this one?
I bought mine from Cummins West. It was only around 60. 00 but that was about 5 years ago. The only thing is this switch is for a 2003 and up truck and they are wired differently. I solved that by using a couple of relays I tucked under the dash. Doing it this way I was able to get the little red light to come on when the switch is on and the ECM still cycles the brake when the switch is on. I did not like the rocker switch that came with the 2nd generation brake.

Check with Hoesli Diesel. That's where I bought my Jacobs e-brake with the cummins shifter switch (stack switch). It was around $ 60 (the switch). They are an excellent vendor. I bought few things from them.

This is the one, thanks guys. Bunyan

Do any of you have or know where to get a stalk switch like Walter Ryan has shown above. They no longer make this switch, only a dash mounted rocker switch. I've been working with Nathan from Cummins North West and we thought we had one in the bag. When it arrived it was the retrofit dash switch. Maybe with the help from everyone here, someone might know where a new or like new one would be. Thanks for all the help.

I have a Cummins E-Brake on my 92 W-250. I bought a switch from Geno's, P/N EKNOB.
It is a complete shifter knob with a pushbutton switch (push-ON - Push - OFF). $49. 00 (On page 34 of their latest catalog #75) The catalog says it is for the "98. 5 - "04 trucks And won't fit the "05 & up trucks with a solid shifter.
My "92 shift lever also is solid, so I had to drill a small hole in the side of the knob and route the wires down the side of the lever. Then I routed it under the shift boot and floor carpet to the brake control relay. I put a piece of split loom over the shift lever and wire to protect/hide/dress up the lever.
I'm very pleased with the install and operation. The button is slightly recessed, so you don't accidentally operate it while shifting gears.
At this minute, I'm 300 miles away from the truck or I would take a photo. Sorry. Jack Dancoe

You are not trying to buy a switch for an 01 are you? The original switch for mine is a panel mount rocker with a light on one end. The shifter mount one is for an 03-06 truck. Earlier mwilson posted a part number but the price was almost double what I paid. If you do find one remember it is not a direct replacement. The switch is in the negative side of the circuit on one truck and the positive side on the other. I was able to make it work and even have the little light work with a couple of relays.

The photograph and part number for the shifter mounted switch posted above in post # 13 by Dave Dressler is the same switch that Cummins/Jacobs provided in the Jacobs Exhaust Brake sold by MOPAR dealers in '01 and offered by the Dodge factory when the exhaust brake was ordered with the truck in '06. I owned both.

The switch is the same old switch that was used back in the '40s and '50s to switch two speed axle equipped trucks.

Okay, thanks for correcting me. Now that you've explained, I think I can vaguely remember the required pause and the hiss of air when the switch was moved.

Actually, I got a rocker type switch with my kit back in '01 that is mounted under the dash (shown under the cigar lighter). I installed it as a master switch so that I could disable the E-brake if I wanted to. The installed Napa Switch on the shifter is much more convenient and wired in series with the rocker.

Dave,

I had forgotten about the very inconvenient and almost useless rocker switch. My kit contained one also and it is still installed in the truck. I believe my kit also included the shifter switch which I used constantly while driving. I don't remember ever using the eb without it or buying it aftermarket and installing it.

My '06 48RE Jacobs kit delivered with the truck when ordered contained the same switch with a black knob in a bracket that mounted on the automatic transmission gear selector.

Did you buy your '01 new? I bought mine new at a dealer 300 miles away and had them install the Jacobs brake before I ever saw the truck.

I bought my '01 HO brand new with 3 miles on the clock, Harvey. It broke down at 7 miles going into "limp mode" in commute hour traffic. A faulty cam angle sensor! Since it was the first HO in the valley, it took 1-week for the replacement part.

One thing about the E-brake (regardless of the switch), I have 154k on the clock now. OEM pads and I have never even adjusted the rear drums. Definitely worth the money. I had to make my mounting bracket for the 2-speed axle switch out of 7/16" square bar stock.
